Being a racing fan as a young kid in the early sixties I was aware of Bobby Marshman. The Indy 500 held a special interest for me and I followed it closely every year from the time trials through the end of the actual race. I was pulling for Jim Clark in 1964 and was surprised that Marshman passed him and was leading by a fair margin. It seems as though he pushed a little too hard and was eventually out of the race. I have always wondered if he would have won that year had he driven more conservatively. I was saddened to hear that he had lost his life the following November. Another driver who had a promising future that we are left to wonder about.
