I think most people simply voted "yes" for the budget based on the small tax rate increase without really knowing how it was arrived at. There were far better ways to get there than by cutting programs and teachers. The budget process was perfunctory, and misguided and misfocused. There were many administrative areas that could have been reduced - my pet peeeve: paying for "subs" for maintenace staff when they take comp time for snow days. In the private sector, the rest of the staff would be expected to fill the void for a day. That's budgeted at $140K per year. There are many line items that have been budgeted at the same amount for at least the last three years regardless of how much is being spent. I easily come up with almost $1 million from such items. And why aren't people pressuring administration for salary concessions?

Generally happy with the trustee vote - McGrath and Paci next to go. Since Tully didn't get elected, maybe she should be hired for the Asst. Supt. for Finance and Management.
