Who do you side with in the dispute between the Lakers and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar?

Kareem absolutely desires a statue if anybody does. It is NEVER too late to correct a wrong. He was one of the greatest players of all time. I loved watching Kareem play.

I feel he was definitely slighted by the Lakers. Same on the Lakers.

Show some respect where respect is due ! ! ! !

Rick - you don't know what the Lakers paid Kareem to coach Bynum !!
Perhaps, Kareem was not paid all that well.

Does the big fella deserve a statue? Of course. But I have to say this. I appreciate it when my boss says good job Rick on her own, much more than when I've had to point something out and have her say it then.
Kareem sounds like a spoiled brat. TJ's article sums it up nicely.

Wait your turn Kareem. The Lakers really don't owe you anything. They paid you well when you played and I'm sure paid you well enough to tutor Bynum.

But now you've just made the statue thing all uneasy. It's tainted now. If I were the Lakers I'd be like, "why do it now?"

docherty - regarding your comments. You are spot on buddy! I had the once in a lifetime opportunity to see Kareem play often with the Lakers - and I feel that I might as well have seen Babe Ruth, or any other milestone sports player perform. It was an awesome sight to behold, and he deserves the highest honor as a player. Anyone who disagrees simply dislikes him personally or is ignorant of his achievements.

Kareem is the best player to have ever played the game of basketball. He should be treated with the awe and respect that Michael Jordan is. Just because he was not as much of a part of the commercial juggernaut of shoes/and marketing.. Lets show some class (as Cap always did) and honor him for all of his great achievements on and off the court.

Michael Jordan got a statue in Chicago faster than any player that I can think of. Other teams have even retired his jersey!

Kareem is the NBA's leading scorer, a true team player.. an honorable person who has volunteered his time and skill to coach on an Apache reservation.

What did Jordan do? Cheat on his wife?

KAJ is everything great about basketball... from a high school kid on the streets of NYC, to being coached by the great John Wooden, to the ultimate team player and 18 time all star in the NBA.

Every team should have a statue of Kareem outside their arena. I'm tired of the false idolatry of celebrity players like Lebron and Dwyane.

Play team ball. Make the team better. Play at least most of your career in one area, and contribute to that community during and after your career, and be a part of the soul of the game.

Honor Kareem, not just with a statue, but with everything that makes basketball great. Players, remember how humble and consistent Kareem was. How serious he took the game, and how much of himself he gave to it. Teams/ Coaches/ Management; stop catering to the (post)Mtv generation. We don't care what kind of house or how many cars a player has. We care about the game.. the freeform jazz of it all.

Honor Kareem now.. or stray further from the roots that got you all here.
