I basically add companies, or let companies add me, because I am often quite curious to what they have to offer me in the future. For example, I am friends with a clothing line that does not exist here in Holland, but none the less I still want to stay updated just in case I do notice something interesting and determine whether I would like to buy it (online) or not.
I also know one company who keeps up personal updates. I like this because I feel its not a mass promo and they intend to direct to each customer personally and therefore give each customer personal attention. I think its a great way for the companies to promote themselves on FB since almost everyone I know is part of the FB community. I agree with alex that sometimes companies can use their profiles on facebook to larger extent, however I can't think of a better way to reach out to a wide target market and catch the interest of potential interested customers ;).

I have one business on my FB simply because of the fact that the services they offer interest me. They frequently advertise their new products in a simple unobtrusive way and also post many articles related to their field. In other words, they are a company that manages their FB well, present, but not in-your-face, and personal with sometimes funny little comments/pictures about the workers. This does not bother me.
What does bother me is when companies force you to give up data, disseminate advertisements to all your friends, etc. In short, as long as businesses don't become pushy, it doesn't bother me.
Wij hebben bedrijven als vriend op facebook waarmee we zakelijk of gezien onze locatie (Utrecht) connectie hebben.

Heey,
Well I do not really mind having companies on my FB. Normally they are companies which I have had some kind of interaction with in the past however some are companies I have never visited/heard of.
I my opinion this is okay, I put them on "limited" so they can't access my entire page. I feel the person running that page can access my info out of curiosity or what not and that makes me uncomfortable (cause I don't know who it is). I sometimes don't understand the point of having me as a friend besides the simple fact that the more friends the company has the better, but non the less I never get invites or promos from them.
So what I mean to say is that no I don't mind it, but I think they could be doing a lot more with it. Most companies make a FB page because they know 'social media' is a growing trend though they do not seem to go the extra step and personalize their promotions or marketing gimmicks to target me or any other potential customers.
