Nigel...u r a snake. lee is the best of all the winners. Not to plan to have him on the shows finale was a big mistake. I was patiently waiting to c him perform that night. Shame on u. Every one is dysing u and u deserve it. Did u do it deliberately? How could u hurt someone like that?it was ur loss and Ryan Seacrest u let that happen also. In fact even the judges were negligent.I hope th show flops next season.

At the end of the American Idol finale, I saw Ryan hand Scotty a "microphone-like" trophy. Scotty had to give the trophy to James so he could hold the real microphone and sing. I've been watching Idol since day one of season one, and I don't recall ever seeing a past idol hand over a trophy to the new winner. I do, however, remember that the previous winners have ALWAYS performed in the finale. Last year's winner, Lee DeWyze, earned his right to be in it.

In my opinion, Nigel Lythgoe is trying to put Lee in a bad light, when in reality, Nigel is the one who is in the wrong here. It looks like the media is taking the bait and reporting that Lee refused to participate. The truth is that Lee has been nothing but gracious. He is not using his Twitter to bash Idol or Nigel. Nigel needs to grow up and take a lesson from Lee. Lee deserves a very public apology from Nigel & AI!

To not invite him is just so WRONG! They had plenty of time. Bono's Spiderman thingy had no relevance to the show and should have been left out. This is a prime-time show, and Gaga, J-Lo, and Beyonce's performances weren't fit for children to see or hear! It has always been tradition to have the previous winner perfom. Instead, they stuck the reigning champ back in the 3rd row, and then they didn't even acknowledge his presence in the audience! Shame on you, Idol. Can't wait for the X-Factor!

My guess is that Lee has the worst post Idol sales of any winner. Crystal beat him in that department, even though she came in second. Idol will separate itself from sales losers.
Taylor Hicks did poorly also. That makes Simon right about not understanding his appeal.
(I remember after one Hicks performance, Simon asked if he was drunk).

I'm with you, Lee. As highly orchestrated as everything else was - I am amazed and appalled that Nigel Lythgoe didn't PLAN in advance to have you prominently featured. Kind of a handing the baton over moment from one Idol to another - that the fans of Idol would hav loved. HOWEVER, when Lythgoe and all of his power and influence says to JUMP - and he is the one that afforded Dewyze with all of the opportunities he has been privileged to receive, I would JUMP. JUMP. JUMP for Lythgoe - and smile while I was doing so. Anything you want, Mr. Lythgoe, sir - as a matter of fact.

This is a no brainer; Lee was right. It was rude on Nigel's part. By the way, I liked the contestants from last season. At least the could actually sing and were TRUE artist. But I guess in todays forgetable bubble gum music scene that doesn't matter.

IDOL has to change the way the votes are allowed if they don't want young, good-looking guys to always be assured of winning. I do think last year's winner should have performed and "crowned" this year's winner regardless of his star quality. I am hoping the X-Factor has more class and a better way to vote than IDOL seems to have lately.

@Rich: Asking someone to do something like that just 2 mins before is completely rude, Lee was right for that. And we aren't talking about all the past winners here. It's just weird cause the reigning Idol always sing in the finale.

When did Idol winners become such prima donnas? If I were Lee DeWise and were asked to mop the stage after all had left, I'd do it. Where would Lee be without this show and it's producers? He was there, he was asked to play a small part. And he refused. Sounds ungrateful to me. Brian had it right. This is not some time honored tradition. There is a long list of past winners, more talented than Lee, who did not play a role in the finale. Shall we list them starting with Kelly Clarkson?

Lee should have gotten off his high horse and pitched in. I'm sure even the most minute exposure would serve his career well.

Lee was 100 percent right it was Scotty moment. Now if they want Scotty to give the trophy to next years American Idol then they should tell scotty now ( not 2 seconds before ) that he has to be on the finale next season to pass the trophy on...

    Whoops--I meant isn't Pia!!

There were plenty of great performances with great artists and past winners. Last time I looked, this wasn't The Masters or something where the previous champ annoints the current winner. If I'm wrong about that, I'm sorry. I don't follow the show to a tee that much(pardon the golf pun!). The most talent singers/musicians usually don't win anyway--case and point was last year when Crystal should've won! It's a female audience who votes most often; hence, the girls are at a disadvantage when there are good LOOKING guys in the top 10. Just a fact of life on AI. Lee should be happy he won, attended the finals, doesn't have to sell paint anymore to earn a living, and is Pia. (The talented female who should've been standing next to Scotty in the 1st place!!

The last few winners on Idol have been very forgettable people, like Lee, Chris, David, and of course who can forget the MOST FORGETTABLE Taylor Hicks, whose wardrobe came from a Salvation Army store. This last winner Scotty, is a one trick pony, who can only sing country music and nothing else. He really wasn't asked to sing anything else, so you don't get to see what a limited singer he is. He will probably be forgotten pretty quickly, after his first cd. All the country music fans will keep him going for a while. I think Simon Cowell is planning to bury AI for good with the X FACTOR, coming up in Sept. He got Paula to work with him too so we will see what happens.

I'll have to side with Lee on this one. Though I'm a fan of his and voted for him, it's turned out that he's not the ideal moneymaker that the Idol franchise had hoped for. It all comes down to who makes them the most $$$ in the end, and he's fallen short. But having said that, as last year's winner, he definitely should have been given the courtesy and respect of a timely invitation to the finale to officially pass the baton to the new winner. Nigel's move only made the Idol powers-that-be appear small and pretty heartless.

I was surprised Lee was not asked by American Idol for him to present. He won the Honors last year of becoming the Idol and it just doesn't make sense. They should be ashamed of themselves for this mishap. It's not Lee's fault and I don't blame him. His response was legitimate. What respect are they giving him since he's the the WINNER from last year. Wow - well I have little less respect for the show then.. I think an apology should be presented to Lee. He brought the viewers last year and was very, very talented. I say to Lee - your still the WINNER in my eyes. Good Luck in your future endeavors...

Mike, learn to spell. No matter what, the previous year's winner has always been a part of the finale and it is ridiculous that Lee did not sing on this year's finale. It's definitely Nigel's fault. No question.

kate youre right :) mike shut up u loser

  • mike - 13 years ago

Maybe it is because idol wants to forget the telentless losers that were on the show last season.

  • Kate - 13 years ago

It's obvious that Nigel & AI was trying to save face at the last second since they were getting negative publicity for snubbing the reigning Idol winner. Lee DeWyze should have been included in the finale. Just because Nigel wasn't involved with AI the previous year when Lee won, isn't Lee's fault. Lee's a amazingly talented singer, songwriter and musician.
