I'm a Sands fan. The problem here is one of timing. I have watched Sands perform, offense and defense, and believe that he is just on the cusp of becoming a really good hitter, and a power hitter to boot. When he misses the fences, he misses by only a dozen feet or so on a regular basis. He has a really good eye for such a young hitter. He consistently runs the count up to the max, can foul off balls almost at will and is fourth or fifth in the number of walks he has generated regardless of the number of at bats he has had. His numbers are really quite good across the board with regard to his batting especially when you realize he has far fewer at bats than those that he is compared to. His fielding is pretty good, too. I'm not sure where you come up with your "so, so" rating of Sands' fielding. He can play left field and first base, that's been established. I don't know of any history on him that says he can't play center field. He has a gun for an arm and is pretty darn accurate with his throws, too. There is so much up side to Sands and so little downside. I say play him and watch him grow. We really don't know how far up the ladder the kid will go.
