I thought the I 90 highway was built with Federal Funds and is not a state highway but a federal highway. Second a light rail train car carries 90 people. Even if the car is only partialy occupied then that will have taken that many cars off the I 90 bridge. And since they are configured as two car consist then each train has the capacity to carry 180 people. At the current timetable which is every 6 minutes, then the trains have the capacity to carry 1,800 persons an hour one way. If more people ride the train then drive across the bridge, then there will be, and lets be conservative, say 30 people per car, which is 60 per train every 6 minutes one way adds up to 600 people an hour one way. That is 600 less cars across the bridge in one hour. I think that will eliminate any congestion across the bridge and not impede trucking at all. 600 less cars an hour will really reduce the carbon footprint from traffic using the bridge. Which means less of that black soot that you will have to breathe and wash off of your house and yard. It does make for a cleaner environment. So, what is the Problem??? I see it as a win win situation. You could drive to the park and ride, board the train to downtown seattle. Go shopping, see a movie, have a drink and enjoy the city without having to find a place to park or go to Belleview and do the same and not be stuck in traffic. With the cost of gas and repairs to the car going up, using the train makes sense to save wear and tear on your car. Reducing the amount of mileage you put on it and avoiding the traffic jams from accidents on the road. During the snow storm that snarled traffic last year and left cars on the road for 18 hours, light rail never stopped once and continued providing service to the airport and downtown to Westlake while those that choose to drive that day either sat in their cars for hours or had costly accidents. The trains are safe and all the cars are equipped with several cameras that are only looked at if a crime is committed and they are such high resolution that it is very easy to identify people. Once criminals learn that they can be identified on the train, they stop riding them and if they do ride they know they can not get away with any act of violence or theft. Sound Transit Police have a very good reponse time to any problem called in by the train Operator, which has a dedicated radio communication system that goes to a central office and is monitored by Sound Transit Police. I don't understand why anyone would object to Sound Transit Light Rail, it is the wave of the future, and the cost of building it is going to go up every year so it is better to build it now then later when it will cost more to do so. if anyone has a solid arguement against it I would like to hear it.
