I remember when everybody doubts Rafa against Federer. I said one thing that if anybody could do it (beat Federer), it would be Rafa. Again, I am saying, if anybody could surpass Federer, it would be Rafa. Anything is possible. Rafa became the only man in the history of Tennis to win 7 titles each in two different tournaments. He won French and Wimbledon back to back twice. Come on, who is kidding who. Rafa will surpass Federer.

Rafa, will never do it, because there is a guy named NOLE Novak Djokovich who will retire Rafa before his time. Tennis world is still having trouble accepting Novak into their hearts. After he wins about 33 Grand Slams they won't have a choice, because Novak will own them. Maybe Nole should say he is a Australian or Austrian or American and not the Dreaded SERB. NOT!!!!!!

I'm a Federer fan. Like Nadal too - Don't think Nadal will surpass Fed. Nadal is prone to injuries, and D'Jokovic is in the way to stop Nadal. Federer can win at least 2 more majors Just love to watch him play.

I love Rafa and that comes from a Fed fan, but I think he is in trouble. The biggest thing to take from this year's Open is not the great matches Novak played and how great he was, but the speed of Rafa's serve. He is significantly slower on that now, and that does not bode well. I think that Fed will win 2 more majors, both of which with be deemed upsets (one almost came at the US Open). I think Rafa will have a difficult time winning all the majors except the French and now he has Novak to deal with there too, because he wants his career slam. I say Rafa will win four more French Opens and will finish at 14 to Fed's 18. After yesteday, who know how many Novak will end with.

don't ever count fed out......he is still playing outstanding tennis............agassi and sampres won late in their careers ....it is true players like rafa and the serb are on top of their game but federer is still in the hunt for Grand Slam wins......after all he is the only player who stopped novak's run.................so lets give credit where credit is due....roger is still on top for all around great tennis and for winning the most Grand Slam wins!!!!

Roger is unlikely to win another Slam if Rafa and Novak are around and healthy. Rafa can achieve another 7 but that will depend on how well Novak plays over the next 2 years.

R afa can possibly surpus roger's achievement as evidenced by his succes against federer in their previous meetings. However, the possibbility of that success depends on the much improved Serb

Nadal is 25 six more french opens would take him to 16 ( 31 yrs old)
Jockey would have to beat him at Paris which he has only lost once, injuries & Jockey are the only
things that will prevent him breaking the record.

Age 26 seems to be the time top players hit the wall and win fewer titles. Look at Fed - age 29 and hasn't won in two years. Doubtful that Nadal wins six more with Djok on the scene.

Rafa is a great player, but like all great players , there is always someone waitinng to take their place. Not only does Rafa has to deal with Novak Djokovic, the is also the Argentine, Del Potro. Also I feel Novak will have to deal with the Argentine also. Del Potro's star was rising before after he won the US Open a couple of years ago, and before he had to take time off for injury!

With Roger still active i don't think it's likely Rafa will surpass his record. Rafa is a bright brilliant flame that has burned too fast. Injuries are catching up to him.

Rafa has two problems in his (immediate to near future): 1. The Djoker has made his move; 2. The physicality of his game will eventually take its toll.
Roger's grand slam history is not complete also!!!!

    of course not!

  • captain ern - 13 years ago

right on, stanley! STANLEY????? you any relation to stan smith, he of adidas fame?

  • Stanley - 13 years ago

All Nadal needs is 2 mmore good years to surpass Frederer but like captain ern said, he must be able to handle Novak J. in order to suceed.

    Time will tell.

  • captain ern - 13 years ago

not with "da jocker" in his path

I agree with PhilPDX. I think Rafa will not be able to sustain his level of play long enough to catch Roger. Especially when I think Roger has a few more Grand Slam finals in HIM. In a year or two Rafa might be having to win 18 - 19 GS finals to catch Roger's record.

  • PhilPDX - 13 years ago

Federer and Nadal are both excellent, and while I think it is certainly possible that Nadal will win more Slams than Federer, his aggressive style of play and his being prone to injury will likely catch up to him before he catches up with Roger.
