How do you define separation of church and state?
It means religion should play no role in government; religion is a completely private matter.
It means government should not interfere in religion, but does not prohibit religion in government.
The First Amendment was merely intended to prohibit government establishing official state religion.
The Founders intended that this be a Christian nation, but one church not be favored over another.
Whatever the Founders intended is superseded by progress in society and now religion should play no role in public policy.
