What?!? You seriously think the show should alter the story so severly so as to become something completely different from the book in order to make you feel better about it? Newsflash people....don't get attached to ANYONE. If you bothered to read the books you'd know that EVERYONE in George R.R. Martin's works are expendable.
I imagine, based on the look on my wife's face when they lopped his raggedty head from his shoulders, that all of you who didn't read the books were struck stupid and slack-jawed. I wish I had a picture! Well that's ok, because I have read and will keep the camera next to us on the couch for the next few weeks.
