I am from the east coast of the U.S. and when I turned on the news this A.M. and saw the rioting, burning, etc., I thought it was Greece, a follow-up to the protests, endless protests against their government. Surprise, CANADA? and worse, beautiful, VANCOUVER???????
Unfortunately, everyone has some ID ego in them, the basic, very basic thought process of a person, down near Neanderthal level thinking (ME HUNGRY, ME EAT type thinking). Around me, in NY, been seeing alot more of this ID personality, maybe people can't contain themselves anymore with the Housing market in the toilet, unemployment, and raising prices including gasoline, BUT, that gives no one the right to act like this.
Riots, including fights, buring cars, breaking windows, doors, then looting stores... I would see clips of it happening around NYC during the big Eastcoast blackout in the mid 60s, another in the 70s.... I was young in the 70s, but heard it on the radio, SCARY until the riot, swat police got control.
Of course, I heard of the Watts riots of 1965-On August 11, 1965, a routine traffic stop in South Central Los Angeles provided the spark that lit the fire of those seething feelings. The riots lasted for six days, leaving 34 dead, over a thousand people injured, nearly 4,000 arested, and hundreds of buildings destroyed. A commission studied the riots and reported RIOTS aren't because of thugs, but are because of DEEP PROBLEMS, unemployment, bad schools, poor housing, drugs, etc.
AND, in the same area, in 1992, when a group of police officers were aquitted of beating a black man, Rodney King, (partially on tape), Watts happened ALL OVER AGAIN.
As I saw pics of your beautiful city with these thugs burning and smashing (don't care what the L.A commission said, they are thugs) I do not understand their mentality. Yes, my teams have lost and depression, devastation, but that old adage -you don't sh*t where you eat bit? Riots, destroying your citiy-does not make sense-all these FOLLOWERS and their IQS probably do not add up up to one intelligence person. I truely hope Van. can clean up and get back to normal and this 'EVENT' does not hurt it's tourist industry for the summer.
