To Invert Or Not Invert?

I played Turok as my first FPS, so I never knew anything other than inverted controls. It took me by surprise that some Xbox 360 control schemes were "default". When I played Metroid Prime, "Default" meant the
Y-axis was inverted. If you set things to "Inverted", then you were the weird one, and Up would move the camera Up.

So I guess during 5-6th gen, today's "inverted" was the norm. Also, many polls I have seen show about 40% of people play inverted, which makes some sense. The average age of gamers is 35. Many older gamers would be accustomed to inverted controls, since so many console games had inverted controls by default. Developers can't even decide what inverted even means sometimes. Retro Studios and Acclaim differed in opinions.
