Do doctors have a First Amendment right to ask about guns?

Why is a Dr even going to ask whether someone has a gun? Do they need that information to treat a patient? I think not.
Silly law that is not needed unless the Dr is being directed to ask for some other reason. My answer to the Dr would be none of your business so get back to what I am paying
You for and figure out what is wrong with me.

Doctors don't have the ability to take away your right to have kinky sex with your spouse in the privacy of your own home, either. Does that mean you think they should be prying into that subject?

When was the last time you heard of a doctor inquiring about whether a husband and wife go to "swingers clubs" and have unprotected sex with multiple partners? The doctor has no power to stop them, sure -- but that doesn't make asking all right.

Once again, please explain how a law that says "Don't ask about whether they own guns" prevent doctors from simply expositing to patients about how to store guns safely IF the patient owns them, or having informational materials on-hand to give out to anyone interested.

The Post's opinion staff are now the ones making up bogus concerns.

If a doctor wants to remind gun owners about the importance of safeguarding guns and ammunition against access by children, all he needs to do is SAY that. The simple fact is, HE DOES NOT NEED TO ASK IF THE PATIENT OWNS GUNS in order to say, "Hey, patient, IF you own guns -- and I'm not asking whether you do -- I can give you pamphlets about how to safely store them so your kids don't get hurt."

That's it! A law prohibiting the doctor from asking whether any particular patient owns guns does not in any way undercut his ability to get a gun safety message out. I'm certain that the NRA would happily supply educational materials about how to store guns safely. (You don't think that "the Brady Center" (née Handgun Control Inc.) actually supplies such materials, do you? They scream about gun safety, but don't do a damned thing to help accomplish it.
