Since I'm usually going somewhere specific when I open my browser (currently Chrome) I have my Lastpass vault set to the start page, it opens first. The rest is set up as links in various tabs on the bookmarks bar. right click>open in new tab.

I have a DIY start page with all my commonly accessed links grouped according
to their purpose, i.e. GIS data links and servers, weather maps, employment related links,
search engines, web tools, etc. Customized for my work desktop and for my home desktop.

I use a custom offline homepage(s) with small tabs that just require a click to send me to the desired web page. I change the page as my interests change.
I wrote a links page. I have one that is java-script http://webpages.charter.net/1foefn/ and one that is simply CSS based http://webpages.charter.net/1foefn/nsl2.html. They essentially have the same links on them. It gives me quick access to the webpages I most visit and I can access it from any computer on the internet.
