The good news of Jesus is the central theme of christianity. It defines who we are ,and it describes the God we serve. How could you possibly think by removing the name of Christ from your ministries title it would open the door more in sharing the gospel with humanity? We must not let our flesh believe we have the answers to people being saved. Only God can do that. I can hear Jesus Christ crying out to us,"Get thee behind me Saten." I am a member of a church that faithfully supports Campus Crusade For Christ, and there is an out cry in our church concering this choice and question your true reason for ommiting Christ, instead of edifying Him as we are commanded to do. Please do not be a part of John the revelator's prophecy of deceiving ministries in the last days.

I hope this will help you evaluate the whole name change. Wish you could have heard, in person, all that went into the decision and you would come away with a much different impression. Glenn has not done his research on this and as a result has mislead many on this topic. He has lost his credibility with me to be all about telling the truth. In this case, he did not.

If His name be lifted up He will draw all men unto Himself, let’s not become so wise in our own eyes that we take the power of confession out of our doctrine. The Lord changed the names of people and places to speak into them what He desired. Campus Crusade For Christ has become what its name suggests. There is power in a name..

I'm saddend to hear that a ministry started so many years ago would alow this to happen
Christ is the foucus for there being. The founders would be crying because of this direction
the ministry will be severaly hurt.
As my Christian life began in Colordo Springs, Co I was privelaged to attend the weekly
gathering and my Christian life has been blessed by there founding principles. To change
this will bring greater rejection then it has ever known and I question it to be an important
influence for Christ. He is the reason for the ministry reaching youth for eternity is what
is most important . Rom 1:16 "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ for it is the
power of God unto salvation." I beg of the leader of this ministry to take another look.
    Thank you!

Problem #1, Cru as in CRUsade only brings more attention to that which they claim was offensive in the first place. Problem #2, Glenn's point is correct in the video. The idea that Christ's name is offensive to some people yet your entire premise as an organization is to introduce people to Christ, is mindnumbingly insane. Problem #3, We are not told to go into all the world and 'make sure we don't offend anybody!' We are told to go into all the world and PREACH THE GOSPEL. The books of Acts tells us exactly how everyone went out and preached CHRIST to people. They were bold, in your face, and were not ashamed of that Name above all names. Problem #4, We have a Christian pastor in Iran willing to lay his life down because he won't deny Christ in the heart of the muslim world, yet our wet noodle American Christians are too worried about offending somwun's wittle feewings. That is a huge problem which leads to Problem #5, A MORMON is telling Christians what wusses we are for dropping CHRIST out of Campus Crusade FOR CHRIST because it's too offensive??? It's no wonder the church and the country is in such shambles.

"Cru"? How confusing and how meaningless is that? The insiders know it, but most people don't and won't.
    Dropping "Crusade" -- understandable; justifiable.
Dropping "Christ" -- unreasonable !!! inexcusable!!!

  • David - 13 years ago

Wow what's the goal; not opposed to a name change per say. However the new name is nondescript and doesn't add anything. You would thick a change as unprecedented as this should set a tone and lead somewhere inspiring? To remove HIS name conceals and does not reveal; what up??

Maybe before we all jump to judgement we should see how this will effect outcomes around the world. I am very familiar with this organization and many other Christian ministries (who note do NOT have the name Christ in their name ie: navigators, YWAM, Intervarsity, Samaritan's Purse, Operation Mobilization, etc.) who all proclaim the name of Christ and have had a HUGE impact for the Kingdom of God around the world. I must ask those who previously have commented and any future comments, when was the last time you had a conversation and lead someone to the Lord? Have their lives been truly transformed by the Gospel? Did you start out the conversation by saying hello my name is ..." your name " for Christ? I have lead several people to the Lord and I didn't start one conversation out that way. What I am trying to say is...this ministry has not denounced their faith, their intentions of serving Christ and telling the world about Christ. Before we all get our Bibles in a bunch and threaten to not give to the Kingdom, why don't you talk to the people you know in the organization, get their thoughts, wow maybe even go with them and see the work they do and join with them in spreading the Gospel. And let us not forget what Jesus said in John 15 that people will know that we are His by our love for one another...I don't sense a lot of love and a desire to seek truth and help an organization by the above comments.

Rev 2:12-13states: "And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write, 'These things says He who has the sharp two-edged sword: "I know your works, and where you dwell, where Satan's throne [is]. And you hold fast to My name, and did not deny My faith even in the days in which Antipas [was] My faithful martyr, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells.

Interesting that Jesus is praising Pergamos that even in times of persecution, that they "Hold fast to His name". I can understand dumping the "Crusade" part but definitely not Christ!!!! Whats wrong with "Campus For Christ"?

Mat 10:33 "But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven"....man, this would not be the position I would want to be in as a Christian!

The Bible tells us "There is power in the Name of Christ"........take away the Name and the power of the ministry is diluted or worst, removed. So sad and disappointing that even this seemingly stable Christian organization falls prey to the "prince of this world" and political correctness. Destruction, one step at a time.

  • Christopher - 13 years ago

THIS IS WEAK and A SHAME! I understand removing "Crusade" from their name but to be so ashamed YES ASHAMED of our Lords Name that they remove that too. This decision is consistent with alot of other "Christian" orginizations that are more concerned about offending people with OUR LORDS NAME then pleasing our LORD JESUS CHRIST. They are ignorant of what our Lord himself said "No one can come to the Son unless the Father draws them". If the Father is drawing them then they will not be offended but drawn to the Name above all names. Its also not our job to prove to people that we are not like the old Roman Catholic Inquisitors. But it is our job to serve the Lord Jesus Christ. In Galations it states "Am I now trying to win the aproval of man or God? If i were still trying to please man i would not be a servent of Christ." My wife and i are running the other way...we are using the NAME ABOVE ALL NAMES MORE AND MORE. WE USE SCRIPTURE MORE AND MORE.

Hey! What's in HELL you "christians" are doing?
CHRIST DOES NOT OFFEND. You liberals offend the rest of the citizens.
If you don't feel enough faith, well....QUIT! People like you guys DON'T HELP!
    You are destroying the CHRISTIANITY!

This is a perfect example of infiltration of moral relativism into a Christian Organization. The removal of the name of "Christ" from the organizations name is like removing the word Physician from the doctor's door. If CCC's intention is to establish an outreach for spreading the salvation message, removing "Christ" makes it a generic salvation. This change may find favor in liberal circles and among progressives on campus, but it is a total cop out of the great commission. The new name "Cru" is actually a connotation reflecting the Crusades. If you want to remove "Crusade", then remove Crusade, but certainly not the name of "Jesus". Removing "Crusade" is pretty much an appeasement to Islam, isn't it? The Christian Crusades back in the day were actually a noble attempt to once again rescue the Jews from annihilation at the hands of Muslims. The only people who find fault with that, are the ones who deny the Holocaust ever existed, that too being the Muslims. Which brings up the question: What's the real and true reason for the name change? CCC doesn't have to admit it, but the reason is to "not offend Muslims" on campus or anywhere else.

  • Dick - 13 years ago

I am shocked...maybe I shouldn't be but this change will certainly cause me to evaluate my support of the Campus Crusade for Christ ministry.

We seem to be abdicating to relevance and political correctness so much in our Christian walk in an attempt to reach the lost but I wonder what other changes are forthcoming.

I will continue to pray for them but I will certainly not increase and may redirect my contributions.

  • Scott911 - 13 years ago

It seems God's hand has been on CCC for many years... Why would you try to 'fix' something that isn't broken? Stick to the name that has been tried and tested... that name is Christ... Jesus doesn’t need our "creativity", "sensibilities", "effectiveness", or our "seductions" of people to win the hearts of man. He commands us to testify to the name of Christ NOT simply for the person being witnessed to, rather, to test OUR faithfulness, loyalty, and obedience in proudly proclaiming the name of Christ unashamedly...

  • Rick - 13 years ago

I can understand removing Crusade but removing Christ is wrong. We don't reach people by using deceptive practices. We share the Gospel and God opens their ears. Never be ashamed of your mission.

  • nellyp - 13 years ago

Re-branding to meet the times is very common and not problematic in and of itself. I can understand the concern in the word "crusade", given the rise in Islam and the challenges we face because of it, but dropping the name of Christ makes me very concerned. Does the Gospel need to be stealth-ed? Do we need to sneak up on people with the Gospel, so before they realize it, they are "captured"? If we believe that no one comes to Jesus if the Holy Spirit hasn't first led them, according to the Scriptures, then we should not feel the need to conceal the name in which we come. I am a financial supporter of CCC and have always appreciated the work they do .

  • cabozechy - 13 years ago

Typical of this newer generation to de-emphasize the word, Christ, to weaken Christianity's foundations so that later generations won't even know the difference. That's where they're moving. We either stop it now or lose later.....the enemy knows this.

  • WAYNE PARK - 13 years ago

AS A SUPPORTER OF THIS MINISTRY AND ONLY LAST WEEK INCREASED OUR COMMITMENT TO SUPPORT A YOUNG COUPLE JOINING CAMPUS CRUSADE FOR CHRIST I AM SHOCKED. IT JUST PROVES THAT EVEN THE ELECT WILL BE DECEIVED.
I DOUBT THAT BILL BRIGHT WAS UNCOMFORTABLE WITH CHRIST BEING IN THE NAME. HAVE WE BECOME ASHAMED TO CLAIM JESUS? HAVE WE BECOME DENIERS?
ARE WE AFRAID OF WHAT THE WORLD THINKS? DO YOU REALLY THINK THE MUSLIMS OR OTHERS WILL "LIKE"US MORE IF THERE IS A NAME CHANGE.?
    MATTHEW 5; 11,12
COME ON PEOPLE IF IT'S NOT BROKE DON'T FIX IT.

  • Kurt - 13 years ago

CCC writes on its website the following:

"There's only one reason we'd change. We want to do a better job of connecting people to God's love and forgiveness. It's all about helping people experience the good news that Jesus offers."

If this is true then I as a donor to this organization can hold them accountable, according to their annual report, for an increase in all areas of ministry. With such a significant name change and bold departure from the branding that has got them to this point I should be able to see an increase in every area of ministry.

As a concerned constituent, all donors should see a significant increase in these areas. If the growth is on the same track pattern as this ministry has been tracking over the last ten years, then the name change did not achieve the stated goal above.

To me, this decision is based in the arm of the flesh and not in the Spirit, but I could be wrong.

  • Peggy - 13 years ago

Once again....Christ is being taken out of the Ministry of just the name of Campus Crusade for Christ. We have been instructed to speak with boldness the Word of God and the message of salvation through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. prayer out of schools, Christ out of Christmas, 10 commandments not allowed on government property and now Crusade and Christ and instead name it "Cru" what? Is that slang for those already involved? That's fine, but, for a ministry that has accomplised so much and won so many souls....and the name HAS attracted more than it has offended and pushed away! So, it's "politically" correct? Is that it? Government and those that would be so swayed to do this are being lied to. Satan is telling those involed in changing the name so drastically as to eliminate the statement of what CCforC is all about. I would be more worried about what God and His Son, our Savior Jesus Christ think about this than "how the WORLD" sees this. You lose Christ and the ministry will have dissolved it's purpose. Nathanael (hmmmm a name straight from His Word. You speak of reasons like Crusades of history......(this is sad) but most people really have not even learned that deeply about the Crusades and the absolute terror of them) even so...it is no reason to relate that with Campus ministries.\
As for ". An equivalent would be if someone was telling you how great a group called "Campus Jihad for Mohammed" was! Wouldn't you be at least a little tiny bit put-off by that???" No I am not put off by it....it's being said and done all around us and we are having it forced own our throats because of "political correctness"..... This has nothing to do with what you are claiming dear "brother in Christ"? I pray you are and my prayers will include asking that Christ will change your heart and view to be more "Christ like". I mean this with all the love in my heart as a Christian woman. But, this is what we have been told would be happening as His coming draws near. Christian STAND UP FOR CHRIST and preach the gospel. What's next? eliminating the "gospel" out of "ministry of the gospel"? No no....ask the Lord to soften your heart and speak lovingly to you.

  • Nathanael - 13 years ago

They have the right to change their own name, they are not being persuaded by Satan, or Obama, or anyone else.

Campus Crusade for Christs invokes their history lessons of the ACTUAL crusades to people who have never heard the actual teachings of Jesus, but may have heard an awful lot about so called "christians" during the crusades.

The Crusades were bloody, violent, greedy, and misguided. An equivalent would be if someone was telling you how great a group called "Campus Jihad for Mohammed" was! Wouldn't you be at least a little tiny bit put-off by that???

ANOTHER MISGUIDED OR DIRECTED SURRENDER TO SATAN BY MODERNIZED CHRISTIAN IN NAME ONLY! WE HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN MANY WAYS HERE IN AMERICA AND IN MANY FOREIGN COUNTRIES WITH CAMPUS CRUSADE FOR CHRIST,ON MANY LEVELS AND THIS IS A SLAP IN THE FACE OF OUR SAVIOR. IT WOULD BE BETTER IF THEY JUST CLOSED THE DOORS AND WENT OUT TO A BALL GAME OF WENT HOME TO WATCH A LITTLE Ha-Ha....BIT OF QUALITY, TV!
