Keep it for community messages. A long time tradition. The island has already become too commercial.

There isn't a business on Orcas who wouldn't like the "free advertising" that places like the tank provide. Therefore, in all fairness, it needs to be just for community messages.
Along this same line, I read the paper faithfully every week and couldn't help but notice the "free advertising" given Luna's Restaurant in the June 29th article on page 9. This was an article to promote the community activities on each island over the 4th weekend. They were the only retail business mentioned in the article. Just thought I'd mention it.
