Man should start by enhancing himself, I want to live in a world of cyborgs and upset the laws of nature.

Absolutely! The type of "enhancement" that I am in favor of would be assisting certain of our sibling species here on Earth to gain a necessary and sufficient foothold for making the leap to awareness of, participation among, inhabitants of higher dimensions of consciousness.
Once humans have been adequately boosted in this regard, why not assist elephants, whales, chimps, and the few other immediate prospects in our Animal Kingdom to pursue the most important quest and ultimate purpose of Life within SpaceTime; acceptance by, intimacy with, the "gods" & "goddesses" of Higher Dimensions? Contact with vastly more advanced species who have attained a level of consciousness that permits a stable and symbiotic existence in dimensions much more copious than a mere four?
I do not feel the need to ask for any pre-approval in this regard. Assuming a sincere project, and a sufficiently intelligent species, I "take it on faith" that the answer would be a resounding "Yes!".

i think it would be ethical to -for example- upgrade a monkey to the point where it can intelligently communicate with humans and also with the apes. that way we can discuss this with the apes and let them decide.

on another note i think it will also bring benefits to the police and customs to enhance the olfactory senses of their animals. I think that in this case the benefits far outweigh the minor ethical issues.

Not sure, although I suspect 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' may be negatively skewing this poll. I support the idea purely out of scientific curiosity, but if we plan to take this outside the lab we'd better have a kick-ass integration plan for the new neighbors. k-ass integration plan for the new neighbors.

This really needs an "other" or write in option. None of the answers provided are anywhere in the same ball park as what I am thinking. Before seeking animal uplift we need to look at uplift for fellow humans who may want/need it.

I think the issue is just a little bit more complex.

The real question is, how do we obtain their consent?

I am not under the impression that it will be impossible to communicate with them.

There are, of course, lots of studies done on animal language, particularly primate and porpoises.

But, I think we will have to take a step further. We will have to enter a temporary state where we devolve to their level and then "ask them" somehow. See DMT and the movie "Altered State".

So, consent is my central issue, but I'm not convinced that consent is impossible to obtain.
