Would you turn Gregg's first page? Be tough. Comments help the writer.

Always, when reading the first page, my attention is divided between the story and predicting how Ray will respond to it. I am planning to offer editing services in the marketing-communications business I'll be opening next year. FtQ's first page critique is the benchmark against which I currently measure my editing skills. Gregg's first page was so perfectly crafted for FtQ that I couldn't imagine what Ray would find to criticize until I read 'looked backwards' and I thought, Ray is not going to like this. For once, I got it 100% right.

But enough about me. Great job, Gregg. I turned the page.

Interesting comment about style, Ray. I would enjoy reading more on how an editor distinguishes style from bad writing.
