Just design a hotel one and a half stories shorter - that's all Swenson's team had to do. What is so hard about that?

Mark the Stoner clearly did not have the interests of Santa Cruz residents in mind when he cast his vote. You have to ask who was really pulling this guy's strings - maybe it's time for a grand jury investigation?
By the way, you can easily find out this @#$hole's address in Scotts Valley. I'm just sayin...

Watch the union dollars flow into Mark Stone's campaign coffers in his race for the Assembly seat. This was not a principled vote. His vote was for sale and you will be able to watch the selling price on the Secretary of State's website.

Why not develop something within the existing guidelines? A huge hotel is not the best thing for Santa Cruz.

The project should be scaled back to the comply with the height restrictions, then approved.
If you want nice things, you have to pay for them. Otherwise, you will will continue to have a Beach Flats vibe, the way it is near the Boardwalk. This project would have been a tremendous improvement adding very nice jobs and much needed taxes. Sometimes I think the city council would rather allow nature to take back the land than allowing people to improve their property for the common good of the community. I am sad about this decision.
