    Amazon, baby!!

  • Michael - 13 years ago

I love Best Buy, amazon, lables online stores, or shows. thats where Ive bought all of my 200+ physical CD's :)

  • Jeaneen Richard - 13 years ago

    I do iPods

  • Ricardo Mora - 13 years ago

Writing from Mexico City. I used to buy CD's every week when I was young and single, most of them in a two heavy music stores, I also worked for them. I also used to asked for people traveling abroad to bring me the goods. Then I started to buy less and less and then I started selling some lots on ebay. Right now I mostly buy live DVD's and from time to time try to preorder on the bands websites. If the shipping gets to expensive then I go to bandcamp. Sorry to say this but I do preview the album I´m interested in buying (cheating). And if possible I buy CD's at gigs.

  • Joe - 13 years ago

I buy music whenever and wherever I can. Best Buy, online, websites, the crackhead down the street...whatever!

  • Kyle McBreen - 13 years ago

    Trivium Is so Awesome

  • Jonathan - 13 years ago

I m still old school in that sense i m buying form the local store!

  • Junior Z. - 13 years ago

I usually get CD's from Amazon or Best Buy, whoever gives the better deal or incentives.

  • Nathalie Côté - 13 years ago

Very often, I buy the CD from the band's website. Otherwise at my local record shop. I like your surveys but I get here too late apparently! :-)

  • Julio C Duarte R - 13 years ago

I usually buy CDs from Amazon but sometimes I look for them in a local record store.

  • Derek - 13 years ago

i buy from the record store, its a great way to support the band

  • B - 13 years ago

I rather buy a CD. Retail makes a difference. If you have no internet or pc.. you can do much with ipod or mp3s. So to have a CD backup that wont die in a flood or something is worth it. Now as for Pre-order or not. Pends on the packaging. :)

  • Ira Sherman - 13 years ago

I either buy from I tunes or Amazon. There is a lot of music that I tunes does not carry that I need to search for on the web.

  • Wes Royer - 13 years ago

I usually by my CDs online from Amazon, BlowItOutaHere, SynPhonic, LaserCD, Prog Rock Records, Omega Order, or wherever it's cheapest including S&H. Offline, I buy CDs from local record stores like BK Music or Plan 9, and on rare occasion, Best Buy or Target. I'm a big fan of the free music available for download on BandCamp and free live downloads on the Internet Archive. As for radio or streaming, I listen to SiriusXM, Pandora, and Slacker.

  • dominic - 13 years ago

Dream theater rocks ready to hear thier new stuff!!!!!!!!!!

  • Peter Adams - 13 years ago

It's sad that record stores are shutting down but it's not surprising, considering how easy it is to buy music from an online site...

  • Sandy DeSmedt - 13 years ago

Love to buy CDs at shows when the band will sign them, otherwise I usually download them from iTunes.

  • Andrew - 13 years ago

But mostly I try to find all the free music I can. Pre-Ordered Wednesday 13's Calling All Corpses from Amazon tho, I should receive it in enough time to throw it on my iPud & learn it before the show on the 26th!!! W00TNeSS!!!!!!

  • Nadia Biava - 13 years ago

I buy music in shops but unlucky in Italy i can't find my favourite band's cds

  • Wayne - 13 years ago

I have never purchased music online. There is something about having a physical copy I like.

  • Benguin - 13 years ago

I buy digital music mostly. I do miss the album cd art and liner notes but I buy way too much music it has become a problem to store all the physical cds! It is so much easier to have it on a hard drive. Plus that is how I listen to it now on mp3 players. I don't know that I ever use the cd player in my car anymore! I do buy the physical cd at shows though because they give deep discounts!!! $5-to-10 cds FTW!

  • Jam - 13 years ago

I download most of my music off of Amazon or Rhapsody. I love the fact that when a new album comes out I can get it right then. I also like to frequent a shop here that sells used cd's, great value and I can usually find whatever I am in the mood for. BT,W Roadrunner rocks! \m/

  • James - 13 years ago

I'm still a little old-fashioned in the sense that I enjoy going to the music store to buy CD's...having the actual physical copy just completes me.

  • JackWayne - 13 years ago

I usually buy cd's from the band. Not only is it a great way to talk to the band members, it is also the cheapest way to buy a cd. Plus, a lot of times the band or the merch guy have side projects that they will sell if you ask about them. I very rarely buy mp3 as they do not come with the cover art and liner notes.

  • Chris - 13 years ago

Most of my music purchases are done at amazon whether it is MP3's or in the case of my favorite bands, CDs... unless said bands offer incentives (autographs, extras, etc.) from buying via the band's web site.

  • Drmrsdad - 13 years ago

This Poll totally goes against everything the Music Biz people and Lefsetz has been saying about CD Sales vs Downloads!!! It seems to me that the Metal Community still likes to buy the CD and I'm happy to see that. I for one buy all my music at different places, Mostly on-line through places like NEH.com, Abstractlogix.com, CDBaby, CMDistro, as well as through Amazon. Then I always try to buy from an artist directly, either through their website or through their prefered retailer. Rarely do I buy MP3, unless it's a one off song or something I can;t find on CD.

  • Ben Duncan - 13 years ago

Local record stores are awesome but for low prices you can't beat amazon and the like. Shame really.

  • Allison - 13 years ago

Record stores are awesome, and there's definitely something satisfying about having a physical collection of music.

  • Fred - 13 years ago

Don't download, buy CDs! The artists are not paid when you download, so they may disappear. If you love them, just help them.

  • Rhonda Bushong - 13 years ago

I like buying music through the band's website or Amazon.

  • Kat - 13 years ago

I usually by cd's from best buy or some other random local music stores. Some of the music that I listen to, unfortunately, is hard to find at stores around my town so I turn to the wonderful world of the internet. Then I usually buy from the bands website. I'm also pretty guilty about leaving shows with cd's especialy if the artist is new to me.

  • Nicholas - 13 years ago

I usually get songs from friends, but I buy my favorite band`s albums from Amazon! Dream Theater`s new album is going to be awesome!!

  • Chris - 13 years ago

I'm oldschool and like to go to a local store to pick up my CDs. I don't like to buy music online because the quality isn't as good as CDs. However, with most record stores closing and the music selections at retail stores such as Best Buy and Target being quite horrible, it looks like I'll have to start buying CDs from such online sites such as Amazon.

  • Ken Startup - 13 years ago

I prefer CD's over iTunes because I like to read the liner notes and I can still rip them to my Computer for MP3's. However the CD's are taking over my house but I still want more. Dream Theatre would be Awesome!

  • Rick - 13 years ago

I buy MP3s from Amazon/Emusic, CDs from Amazon, and CDs from the artist site.

Doesn't matter too much where you buy the music from, just buy it, don't steal it.

  • ionevo - 13 years ago

Merch at shows and from local record stores. It's how I got my Opeth collection.

  • Teksera - 13 years ago

    UP THE UNDERGROUND!!!

  • wendy - 13 years ago

Buy from a local music store; Scrape! Don't like downloads, the music and the liner notes are where the heart (beast) is!

  • keith imler - 13 years ago

I love music my wife i already have too many cds but i dont think that that is possible. now my kids listen to my music

  • Ken Streiff - 13 years ago

Usually buy from cduniverse. I like it better than amazon.

  • Ben Callicoat - 13 years ago

I was about to order 6 or 7 albums, but now I hope I'll be able to get 4 out of this amazing poll!

  • Colleen Sheehy - 13 years ago

I prefer to buy from the band - they do the work; want to be sure they get the money! (shoutout to Slackjaw Blues Band, my hometown heroes!)

  • Julian Urrego - 13 years ago

I love CDs.... I think they should all be less than $10 dollars though

  • Colin Bosler - 13 years ago

I just finished reading Sammy Hagar's Book 'Red" and he talks about the demise of the music industry over the last few years and how very few people are buying rock/metal releases in their true album form (mostly downloads). It is great to see that more people have chosen the options of buying music at their local record stores and Amazon versus downloading them.

  • Bobby Dawson - 13 years ago

I get all of my music from Amazon. Fast, easy, and it all goes right to my cloud drive.

  • erik - 13 years ago

i buy most of my stuff thru www.newburycomics.com

  • Joao - 13 years ago

I'd probably buy more online if there was a better way...

  • Socke - 13 years ago

I get most albums from the record store. If they don't have it, I get it on iTunes or, if it's special to me, Amazon. If an album doesn't mean too much to me, I ask a friend if they have it. Most of the time when I listen to music, it's on my mp3-player, so streaming is not an option.

  • Bear - 13 years ago

I always buy @ Amazon, or download from iTunes. I'll never buy from rip-off artists like Best Buy etc. I miss the old small Mom & Pop shops where you could actually get decent input from the owner on what's the best & latest.

  • Travis - 13 years ago

When Machine Head's new album comes out I hope the number of people who don't buy music to drop even lower!

  • Saxon Sauter-Schultz - 13 years ago

I do all of these (except for "I Don't Buy Music" of course). I love to buy the psychical copies of the albums, especially the special editions, but sometimes, I might not be able to afford them, so I buy them off of iTunes. I also love to buy albums on vinyl, because I'm a collector, and I love to listen to them on my record player.

  • Monique - 13 years ago

often after seeing a band live, I have to buy their album ASAP!

  • phillycheese - 13 years ago

If bands are signing after a show, i will buy music at a show. Otherwise its mainly Target, or Deepdiscountcd.com. If i want it immediately, i will buy on iTunes and burn a CD from that.

  • AmBert26 - 13 years ago

I buy my music from Amazon because they have the largest selection and they have the best prices. I hate iTunes.

  • arwin M - 13 years ago

when i want to buy music...is just like take my time away, ´cause i stay on internet all day and all night just to find any offer!!!!

  • sphen the magnificient - 13 years ago

moi? i just want free stuff :D

  • Purity90 - 13 years ago

Slipknot, Stone Sour, Killswitch, And Now Korn, Roadrunner Bands Are The Shit!!!!

  • Damjan - 13 years ago

Unfortunately, I don't buy music due to being poor /sadface

  • dsgehr - 13 years ago

I still like to have the physical media rather than just an MP3, and I still crave the browsing experience in a store (I'm fortunate to have a decent record store in town, not everyone is as lucky anymore). The biggest problem for me is not how to buy music, it's finding quality music in the sea of garbage that is currently being released.

  • yismeicha - 13 years ago

    CD's!

  • Chris Outtrim - 13 years ago

Unless the physical product comes with something such as a concert DVD or video collection DVD and/or bonus tracks I couldn't get anywhere else (such as Best Buy, Target, etc), then I normally only purchas from Amazon.com because I can get the mp3's there for MUCH cheaper most of the time. The problem with the physical CD is it has not gone down in price over the years...mp3's are just as usefull in 2011 and they're not as expensive and there's no physical product to worry about scratching....It's a win/win scenario to me.

  • Phizzle - 13 years ago

I bet most of the people that vote never buy albums, only download them illegally.. Those that do, if you like them, support them, buy their damn stuff.

  • Jesse hanaen - 13 years ago

I buy all my CDs from record stores, at the concert if like the band Or new cd available to b/pre-order, and pre order from the website.

  • Jacob Tomlinson - 13 years ago

This is a comment for the contest thingy

  • Jonathan Reeves - 13 years ago

I love buying music. Its a habit of mine. When a band releases a new album I could wait a few weeks and just have someone burn a copy for me but I would much rather own the real album and support my favorite bands. Its just something that I enjoy and look forward to doing each and every year.

  • Brian - 13 years ago

It is actually refreshingly surprising that local record store purchases are in the lead....I thought everyone had given up on actually buying music. Music is also a visual buying experience. I like finding new music by accident flipping through cd racks. Plus it's just not the same waiting for release day and downloading invisible files, but I love rushing to the record store at lunch time to grab the new release! It's still fun to me after all these years (I'm 40!)

  • Mark - 13 years ago

Mostly buy online anymore. The closest thing to a "record store" in my town is WalMart, and I don't really care about the latest Beyonce album...

  • Clinton Jurgens - 13 years ago

Music is my life and I love these RoadRunner bands. I NEED these albums.. SEND THEM TO ME PLEASE!

  • Gustavo Agostini - 13 years ago

Love buy cds in stores or by the web. It´s the least we can do by our favorite bands.

  • Peter Andersson - 13 years ago

Spotify on the iPhone rocks everywhere. At home, in the office, in my car ... But I still buy the cds from my favorite bands. Once a collector, always a collector. As two of my favs (Opeth and DT) are the proze of this poll, I sure won't miss the chance to win them. ;)

  • Ben Cheesman - 13 years ago

I prefer to buy directly from the bands as they get instant feedback from a fan, and it keeps the cash away from greedy corporate whores

  • Jeff Vivier - 13 years ago

I'm buying music anywhere cheap. As I don't have a job by now and that I used to be a cd junkie, I try to relax with it. I have tons of them... Don't talk to me about downloaded music; I need the physical cd...

  • Jeff Glasson - 13 years ago

I was a cd junkie during my college days where I typically spent my entire paycheck on used cds at the local record shop. Fast forward to now and I've sold the entire collection and typically stream from Pandora, Grooveshark, Spotify and Rdio. Although, I do miss the cds from time to time!

  • David Falzano - 13 years ago

Amazon is HUGE for me in buying albums, then Ebay, & finally my local record store (Newbury Comics.)

  • Ben Davies - 13 years ago

I buy at least 2 CDs a week.

  • CL - 13 years ago

Buying music or, generally, merchandise at a live concert is the real way to support the bands you love and their music.

    Support and Testify.

  • Slagr - 13 years ago

    CDs are convenient.

  • babale - 13 years ago

i often buy cds from unknown local bands direct after concert to support them

  • Adrian - 13 years ago

It feels great to buy a CD, it just becomes more personal i think. But as long as i hear the great music, i am satisfied ;)

  • Tiia - 13 years ago

It's either from an online retailer, local shop or the band's website - wherever I can get the physical copy from. It's not just about listening to the music, it's about the whole process. Nothing beats the feeling when you remove the CD from its case for the very first time, put it in a player, adjust the volume and bass, lay back and get ready for a full listening experience, flipping through fresh cut and printed booklet, still without any finger prints or deterioration. :)

  • Brian Barker - 13 years ago

I´m not very trusting of the postal system, so I usually make sure I´m outside the record shop shortly before opening, if it´s a big release day (see Dream Theater, Opeth and Anthrax in the coming days). Otherwise, I order from wherever has the best price.
I usually only use iTunes if I´m interested in one song from a cd, or if there´s a single released prior to the full album release.

  • Tom - 13 years ago

Getting to know new music on the internet (especially spotify), and if I like it buying it in a record store, or sometimes at a show or a pre-order from the band website ^^

  • Laura - 13 years ago

From online-shops (amazon, play.com), mainly. To a lesser extent, at my local record store, from the band's or label's website and from the band at a show. I always buy the physical CD, never from Itunes or something similar.

  • Nicola Cavallini - 13 years ago

I usually buy my music in record stores, after a long time of comparison among prices, shops and editions of the various albums.
I don't really like mp3s and on-line stores, I think they are good just to listen to new music, but the feel you can have when you touch a real CD, take it from his sleeve and put it in your hi-fi system, it's really awesome!

    NK

  • Rich Liddiatt - 13 years ago

I'd buy from a local record store if there were any left!

  • Francesco 1987 - 13 years ago

I usually buy the cd's in the local music stores because I use to collect them. I love the artwork, the cd in itself, the smell of the booklet, the lyrics (I hate when the lyrics are not there!) in it, I always read what the artists wrote, their notes and so on. I've got a collection of more than 450 cds and I'm very proud of it. Buying mp3 it's not the same thing...I sometimes buy cds online if I can't find them in the stores, and in Italy happens frequently with the music I hear...

  • Markus HxC - 13 years ago

Rien ne vaut les cd's comparé à l'immatérialité des mp3 ... Un cd ça se touche, ça ce conserve, ça se collectionne ...
Pour le prix, le plus intéressant c'est de les achetés directement lors des concerts ...

  • Jason Steffen - 13 years ago

I buy used from the local record store.

  • Patester - 13 years ago

It pays to shop around. The internet is where you will usually find the best deals, but you have to factor in shipping charges and/or sales tax.

  • kirsten - 13 years ago

Yes, I confess... itunes..it annoys me, pisses me off...but I buy a lot from itunes.

  • badblood - 13 years ago

I just want to win some free CD's!!!!

  • YtseJam - 13 years ago

Can´t wait for Dream Theater´s ADTOE release!!! Just a few days left!

  • Jesse - 13 years ago

I always buy from a music store

  • Scott VanDusen - 13 years ago

I like to buy my music at the show and hopefully get it signed by the band. OPETH is gonna rock Los Angeles in october!

  • Derek - 13 years ago

I love buying CDs and I am very happy to see that so many other metal fans agree with me, I like to think that we are the most likely crowd to actually support our local record stores. I proudly display my collection in two CD racks (around 275 each) in my apartment, in fact I bought two CDs today.

  • Ron - 13 years ago

I buy music from itunes, so I can load in my iphone and ipod.

  • Andrew Hadley - 13 years ago

I always buy my CD's from my semi-local record store (Mad Platter Independent Record Store) 20 miles away from me and I love the whole experience the people there are freaky geniuses when it comes to music plus i love having a CD or a record in my hands and being able to look at the album art and being and being able to read the booklet and seeing what the band has to say about their album and ROADRUNNER FOR LIFE!

  • Jose - 13 years ago

I like to have a hard copy of my music, so in case of anything I have backup for my mp3. Also like having the booklets to read the lyrics. Plus I go to Vintage Vinyl so its always good music hunting there.

  • Jared - 13 years ago

I have to have something physical to show for my purchase. Something about being able to hold the disc, liner, jewel case and seeing the design work that accompanies it. Makes the music even more satisfying!

  • Camilla Rydberg - 13 years ago

    Mostly on the internet! :P
