How Long Has It Been Since You Wore A Watch? (Include other single-purpose time-keeping devices)

Watches were never really about telling the time solely. They have always been fashion items. The fact that we are now surrounded by devices to actually tell us the time only makes this more the case. It's why I have left behind the digital watches of my youth with all their functions, sensors and left that to the smartphone. My watches now are classic designs, containing the reassuring 'tick' of a precision engineered device.

I was a professional pilot for the last 23 years, and a cop before that. I made constant reference to my watch for both of those jobs.
My last flight was in July of last year (2010).
    I haven't worn a watch since.

I need to know the time when I'm out in the ocean. My iPhone would get wet and ruined, plus it would be awkward carrying it in my surf trunks' pocket. Duh!

I wear a geek watch. You have to know how to read it and people are always asking me "What's that?"

I am left handed and wear my wristwatch on my right hand. I feel naked without it. In fact, I almost literally never take it off. It's water-proof, so I even shower with it on.

Unlike clothes, I don't mind spending a lot of money on the one accessory I wear constantly, so even though I spent $1200 on my Fendi silver bracelet watch with a black face and three tachometers, it's a bargain because I've worn it for years and don't plan on replacing it, perhaps ever. For that amount of money, it's a timeless design that will never go out of style, plus it's Swiss made and should easily last a lifetime.
