I actually found out online and catching up on Netflix. I was pretty surprised all the same but glad. I was surprised mainly because Andy was cast as a side character in the very beginning. But, I think they were planning to make him boss since season 5. There are certain hints that Michael makes toward that.
I kept thinking it would be Jim. Dwight always proved too extreme and is brilliant as assistant.

If you watch the UK version...(I won't give it away) There is no Andy but I can see that due to how different it was, the US version needed an Andy.

I wasn't too thrilled about it at first, but I'm liking what I'm seeing so far.
I was really hoping for someone like Wil Arnett (has another show this season, and frankly his character was kinda bland in the interview- I was hoping for something more like Gob Bluth), John Lithgow, Ricky Gervais, etc. Luke &/or Owen Wilson were good suggestions, too, BTW, although I personally think Owen would be better for it.
Someone fresh could have really interjected some real energy into a show that some feel has grown too boring/rote/predictable/whatever. I don't happen to aggree, but I know that sometimes it's good not to get TOO comfortable and into a rut, and to stir things up a bit.
I think it is really interesting to see how Andy is shaping up as manager, though, and I think there is a lot of potential there.

I think Andy is a good choice and was happy to see him get the position. I think it may need someone as naive as Michael to make it really funny again, though. Too bad Luke or Owen Wilson were not in the market to do some television.

I like Andy as the new boss but Dwight would have been my first choice. Jim pulling pranks on his boss (Dwight) would be great!
