What do you think of Superman's new look?

I grew up with the man of steel the way he is and so did alot of other people. He was looked at as a HERO and should not be changed. The change makes him look bad and that is not good for kids to think that one minute a person is good and then turns bad. We need more HEROs in this workd today.

I agree 100% with what Don and Michael said, why change the look of a Super Hero that is the only one that does not need the aid of gizmos to be SUPER, he is Superman because that is who he is and what he is "SUPER". Please leave well enough alone, I remember as a kid looking up to the man of steel and loving him for what he stood up for,TRUTH, JUSTICE AND THE AMERICAN WAY!!!!!

"Truth, Justice and the American Way" has been Superman's Credo since the beginning. That is being changed and also his appearance as a wholesome champion of good is being altered to make him look almost sinister, himself! For me, Christopher Reeve played the role of Superman to perfection....in dress, appearance, and noble attitude. Please keep our fictional hero, good and someone to look up to.

Basicly, to put it bluntly , it sucks !

If Superman is to be modernized, it should be all the way. Lose the cape and the "costume". Blue jeans, black boots, a black jacket (if needed), and a blue, short-sleave shirt with the big, red "S" on it should be the new look. Save the "costume" for special occasions.

Furthermore, regarding the attraction of new "readers", what are those so-called readers "reading" these days? LOL! The article itself acknowledged that modern youth are not hitting the newstands. That's because they are online, or watching shows like Smallville (something the movie franchise could learn a LOT from), or enjoying the ability to interact in the storylines through gaming! Tweaking the costume and storyline in print isn't gonna do jack if you are ignoring the reality of the kind of medium that today's youth prefer!! Wake up!

Times have changed. Like it or not, THAT'S REALITY. Instead of continued, failed attempts at a medium that is no longer relevant, they should be "engaging" today's youth in the mediums that ARE being used (and using a modern appeal/look to go with it).

Why try changing the course of a river when you can learn to navigate the river?

Why DC is messing with a classic ion of American Myth? Keep The Man of steel as he is. I hate the new look. His costume should remain as is looks now. He is now learning how to fly? What is it 1938 all over again? Hey that’s 73 years ago. I say again keep Kal El as he is NOT as he was when he was first introduced.

The face looks like that of a Japanese manga character. They did a reboot years ago and started the numbers over. Truthfully, they have redone things over and over (and over) since the late 30's. How many different fates did Jonathan (or Eben - original name) and Martha Kent meet over the years? Most of the early comics were multi-story or one story. Not many multi-parters. Marvel's troubled heroes caused D.C. to reinvent its heroes in the 60's also and they have continued doing it. Read the older comics, watch the Max Fleischer cartoons, listen to the 40's radio show, watch the two serials, watch George Reeves on TV as well as a number of other TV shows (Superboy, Smallville, etc.) and the watch the original movies and the last movie. Things changed in all of them. Do I like the latest change? No! But does our vote count. Only if they retreat back to the old costume and character. Is that likely - probably not!

I agree with George Salner, Michael McPherson, and William Goodno. I don't like Superman's armor, he is not Iron-man! He is MAN OF STEEL, nobody stop him! Unless Superman have lead armor against green kryptonite before but not use it anymore. He finally beat green kryptonite against Lex Luthor! Superman can anything without armor! I love Superman's old costume, it's must stay on and honor Christopher Reeve in movie! I am freak fan of Superman I was 3 years old to now! Hope 52 DC Comics will get back to normal for anytime soon!

Two things you should never attempt to change:

    The Bill of Rights

    Superman

  • Joseph Holler - 13 years ago

Superman's "suit" is part of what defines him. The new look is actually creepy andscary looking, more like a villain than a good guy. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I wish the new writers of my favorite DC comic characters would leave them alone. Over the years I have enjoy Superman and his adventure. Superman and Batman are my favority characters and where they have not messed up Batman,(to much), I think in this reboot they have finally messed up Superman. I hope that someday the people at DC will come to their senses and return to the Superman in the red outfit and the Origin that goes with it. Come on DC quit trying to improve something that is not broke. Look what happened when they try to make Lois Lane a single mom in the film, that went over real well ! ! I have stopped reading this new Superman and Action Comic and I wait for my Superman to return. In the meantime I have my back issues

I think the new costume is positively AWFUL!!! What the heck is D.C. thinking? I agree with everything that Michael McPherson said in his post.

  • Michael McPherson - 13 years ago

I lost respect for D.C. when Superman renounced his U.S. citizenship. It was bad enough when they changed the phrase "Truth, Justice and the American way" to "Truth, Justice and all of that." in the 2006 movie (which I thought was really good) trying to keep Superman in tune with the times, now they want to change his suit. Why does Superman need armour? The picture in the parade magazine makes him look more angry then anything. Superman is suppose to be an icon, a symbol of morality, strength, and goodness. A person is suppose to look at Superman and want to strive to be all of those things. Do people look at Superman now and think to themselves "I'm never going to be any of those things, why bother trying?". If people today can't realte to what Superman is suppose to stand for, what does that say about people these days??? Is that why D.C. feels a need to cahnge him into a hero that can't fly and needs armour? We have plenty of superheroes like that already (X-Men, Iron Man, Batman). As a kid, I always said if I could be any superhero, it would be Superman. Why, because he's Superman. He can literally do anything, and without the assistance of a utility belt, a suit of armour, or government experimentation. This, to me, is just another sign that America is losing it's identity. It's almost as ridiculous as the controversy that Captain America's name stirs up. People used to think that name sounded awesome and proud. Now, people (even Americans) thinks it's arrogant of us to have a superhero with such a name. That's truly sad. I would rather see iconic superheros like Superman and Captain America fade into history remembered for what they stood for rather than being remade into something else, something lesser, in a effort to make them more appealing to a new generation. P.S. Sorry for my misspelling I didn't correct. I'm sure there are some in this message. I realize I'm not perfect, but I do the best I can (without the aid of spell check). I learned thst from reading about and watching one of my childhood heros. A guy in a red cape, that was so awesome I wanted to be just like him.

With the world in such upheaval and distress we need the traditional guidance of a proven superhero named SUPERMAN. He stands for truth, justice and the American was (as it use to be) before we became a self-centered, semi-socialist, welfare state where a heck of a lot of us (not me) turn to the government for a handout and advice on how to live our lives and our elected officials think we work for them instead vise versa. Let's get back to basics, when family and friends helped each other, in many ways, and we had a much smaller government(s) and did more with less. To sum it up, the World Was 2 Greatest Generation that saved the world for the Nazis and Imperial Japanese, to include fascist Italy.

WHAT WE DO NOT NEED IS A SUPERMAN 2.0!!!!

  • Richard Hutchings - 13 years ago

You forgot to remind the folks that the reason that we don't see or hear much about the Man of Steel is because ---- THERE ARE NO MORE PHONE BOOTHS!!

  • Don - 13 years ago

Hate it, hate it, hate it. Why do you have to change something to TRY and attract a certain base and risk loosing your EXISTING base? And also, you wonder why sales are down? Try looking at why a comic is over $3 or more an issue with far less pages. And those pages just consist of large one page panels with horrilbe art work. Go back and re-read DC, and even Marvel from decades ago and try to learn what real storylines and artwork USED to mean! The comic industry just might resurrect a loyal base again. Hey, they brought back Superman from the dead, they may wanna try with their (past) loyal readers....

  • Diana - 13 years ago

The outfit is OK but the face looks evil. Did he join the other side?

  • Jason - 13 years ago

I read DC comics lost the rights to the original Superman look hence the reboot.

  • George Beltran - 13 years ago

WHAT!!! Just strip away my childhood hero! I have been a fan of Superman since I learned to read..early fifties. He IS the Man of Steel, why would he need armor. Leave well enough alone.

  • William Goodno - 13 years ago

Why would he need armor? He's Superman! Being bulletproof was one of the things about Superman that made him super. And if you make him a brooding super hero, isn't he just another Bat Man?

  • Richard Adams - 13 years ago

Brilliant strategy - to turn away faithful followers of the Man of Steel. Reboot, reimagine, whatever you want to call it it's idiotic. No plan to see it, nor the rebooted Spider-man or any more Comic book movies. If needed I'll be in the time vault, reading, listening and watching the old classics - when Superman was only "Faster the a speeding locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound! Look, up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane!"

Why don't you leave this comic book charachter alone? Some never know when to leave things that don't belong to them alone...
