Marijuana will never be legal in western society. Our subsequent governments make too much money off the fact that marijuana is illegal and all the aditional benefits that brings with it such as law enforcement, healthcare, etc.

I apolgize profusely for neglecting to cite the source of the figures i previously gave, they are from the Cannabis Law Reform group (CLEAR) and these were excerpts of the summarizing statements on a study they recently undertook. It is available on their website www.clear-uk.org. The figures provided are their best estimate.

In addition to the taxation revenues, there are also the savings on the criminal justice costs of enforcing prohibition to consider. This probably runs into the billions as well.

Then there's the issue of cognitive liberty and the duty of the state not to infringe this fundamental human right.

I would like to know the origin of your figures Valued Member of Society...

The current poll figures show that most people now know that prohibition is a huge failure, a massive waste if public money and needs to be scrapped.

"The best estimates are an average 2.7 Million active users consuming 1037 metric tonnes with an estimated street value of £5.9 Billion per annum.

Overall the net benefit to the taxpayer of a taxed and regulated cannabis market could range from £3.4 Billion to £9.5 Billion per annum, with a best estimate of £6.7 Billion per year at recent market levels" - CLEAR

I do not understand why this money is going towards funding crime, when we are in a recession. Especially when the substsnce is less damaging to your body than regular use of either alcohol or cigarettes. This is either political nannying or ignorance. I want neither in my government.

To the people that vote no, why? What do you know about cannabis? I suspect very little. But if you think otherwise, please enlighten me.
