Living in grain surounded with industrial plant the village is gradually being chocked with the lpg gas, threat of toxic waste plants, and anything else no one wants, how long will the village last anyway.

I personally think this proposal has the imagination that this country often lacks. It would bring employment to the area and not just during the construction phase. The motorway and high speed links are already in place. It would provide further potential flood relief to the whole Thames area. The probability is that it could also include a further Thames crossing from Kent into Essex. It would also refocus London in moving its orientation to the east. Hethrow is a non starter for further expansion. One of the main reasons is lokk at what is happening in Schipol and Frankfurt with their expansion. The economic activity will not be moved within the UK, but be transferred to the Netherlands or Germany.

    A few points to consider.

One of the few wildernesses and spaces for the people of the Thames estuary - a place to wonder and dream and reconnect with nature, ourselves and others. Why fly away to find what we destroy at home?

Recommend we make more effective use of what we have and develop existing facilities, including those of our Royal Airforce which we can no longer afford.

Its use by Brent Geese make the site of world importance. They could also bring down aircraft.

London does not need a hub airport - mainland Britain does or at least England does. A small country should have spent its money on the other transport facilities and then the connections would be there. They are already pretty good where the A1 links with the A14 and has close rail connection to London, the midlands and the north. This is the former airbase at Alconbury which has already got long runways (used by the Americam Blackbird spy plane as well as the flight of less rapid U2s). It is now used by the transport industry but it would not be difficult to bring it back into use and move current occupiers to Luton which would close. The only trouble is it is close to John Major's home and so wasn't considered in the 90s! Most aircraft using it would climb out over either the Wash or over rural areas to the south-west. There would be no problem in organising the approach air lanes. A high speed spur from the east coast main line and a junction to an upgraded midland line/new west coast high speed link would be relatively sheap and all major cities now covered by Heathrow, Luton, Stanstead and East Midlands would be reached in 40 minutes. The airports mentioned could be closed or reduced to short-haul flights only. Suggest this bold panacea instead of voting for yet another stupid addition to an overcrowded part of the country which would cause massive environmental and social damage.
