This appears to be the latest tactic and talking point from those who oppose the Occupy Movement--and I wanted to send the folks in charge of this a few hints on how to make these things more effective--for one thing, when these talking points come down--from wherever it is that these conservative talking points come from--wouldn't it make sense to spread them out--maybe send a few talking points out to different people so that the memes employed could seem just a little more organic and harder to discredit. In any event--we are hearing this call from several different quarters all at the same time--but the truth is, and this is why this claim will never play in Washington State and Seattle in especial--we care here about the right of the protesters to voice their beliefs--that is the most important thing and it needs to be protected even if it is costly--to any or all of us. This is what built America--surely you remember the Revolution--it cost the British just a little bit--but we as Americans celebrate the outcome of those actions--many even celebrate little historic events like the Boston Tea Party--even if they don't actually understand what any of it was about. Essentially, now, it is time for the businesses to take just a little bit of what they have been telling the American people for quite awhile--"Man-up," you may not agree with what is being said or even how it is being presented--though really, on Saturday--you really should close up shop and watch Mrs. Neil Gaiman and Dresden Dolls frontperson Amanda Palmer when she takes the stage at the Occupy event. But we all really know, (and one of the most important elements of Occupy is that the 99% will no longer remain silent and act as enablers to the 1%) and it is in that spirit that I say this--you don't really care that this is costing the city an extra cent--that's just a pretty pretext to try another way to close down the Occupy Movement in Seattle--because it scares you poopless.
