    Do it.

Mourn what you will loose (your nipples), but be thankful for all that you will gain. I am 3 months out from my own surgery and I am glad I chose to do what I did.

Then put this all behind you and live your life.

I had a bi-lateral mastectomy in February of 2010 and another cosmetic revision in October of this year. The first two weeks are pretty rough, but it gets much better from there. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have. I have a great feeling of relief that it is behind me and I don't have to worry about breast cancer again!

I did do it. At the age of 33 I had a double mastectomy. I had so many reasons but the major ones were; chemo was absolutely hell and I never wanted to go through that again and I have the BRAC 2 gene and I knew it would be back if I didn't throw everything I could at it. And like you I didn't want to worry about it coming back. It is a very personal decision though. Both my grandmother and myself have had double mastectomies but my mom continues to have pre-cancerous things removed. The insurance company my mom is covered under won't do a profililatic (bad spelling sorry) mastectomy. I did have implants put in during my mastectomies though- and that was great especially if you don't need radiation and the added benefit -you don't have to come back for another surgery! Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I MET YOU ON NOV. 16TH, YOU CAME OUT FROM MRI AS I WAS GOING IN. I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH IDC ON RIGHT, THE MRI SHOWS "A PROBABLE BENIGN NODULE " ON THE LEFT. AFTER MUCH PRAYER AND DISCUSSION IVE OPTED FOR BILATERAL MASTECTOMY WITH RECONSTRUCTION WITH SILICONE IMPLANTS. I WANT TO DO AS MUCH AS I CAN DO TO NEVER HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS AGAIN. THATS WHY IVE MADE THIS CHOICE. ITS A VERY PERSONAL CHOICE, BUT I FEEL MORE AT PEACE WITH IT THAN I DID PLANNING ONE SIDE ONLY AND HAVING TO WAIT AND SEE. THANKS FOR TALKING TO ME THAT DAY. GOD BLESS.

If it were me.....YES, I would do it. I know for me it would help to worry less, & that alone would be enough to do it....plus all the other benefits tht come a long with it. XOXOXOXO
