Given that the general selected kids that fit his system, not kids with a certain level of athletic ability, AND, that he coached at a time when AAU was not nearly so prominent, he recruited the best kid, not the best athlete. Give me 5 totally even players on 2 teams coached by the General and coach K. I'll take Knight in a 1 game tournament, or any combination..............when it came to a chess match and xs and os vs. todays shot clock and 3 pointer, which have ruined the 'game,' the General will Never be surpassed.

Different times, different actions... Same results...Coach K has his pick of the high school basketball blue chippers, whereas Bobby got more with less talented players. Advantatage Knight!

Give them the same team ... one game ... need a win ... I choose The General.

The question was: "Who is the better coach?' Not recruiter, public image builder or anything else, just coach!

When you compare the raw talent available to both, Coach Knight's ability to build consistently good teams from average talent is unsurpassed

Bob Knight said it best himself:

"Mike has all of my qualities and none of my vices!"

I Think it comes down to the student-teacher philosophy, Bob Knight taught Coach K, so hands down, even if you don't like the person he was Bob Knight is the better coach, think about what Bob Knight was working with also, players that were okay, but never the NBA caliber types Coack K is working with.

There are a lot of people that hate Duke. This proves that... Obviously Coach K's reputation has far exceeded Knights. Hater's keep hating!!! :)

How anyone can put Bob Knight in the same room with Coach K, let alone in the same class of human is beyond me. Knight may have had an excellent win loss record on the court, but as a person, what a dismal disappointment. Talk about someone who squandered their reputation. Just not a good guy.

Coach K is much better in my mind. So far as I know, he never threw a chair at any one.

Bob Knight is by far the greatest coach. But too many times he acted, in public, like a horse's rear end. So my vote goes to Coach K

Mike and Bob are both great coaches but the fact that Bob put his hands on a player in frustration and threw chairs etc. demotes him down the chain in my opinion. I know he is of high character but he is a person in an authority position, leader and mentor and he should not have done those things.
