Was LSU taking a knee with more than five minutes remaining against Ole Miss insulting or classy?

That's whats wrong with this country. We have to be "nice" to the other team. What the hell happened to always play like you're 2 points down (more a basketball thing but the point still stands). If you want to sub out and put in the "JV", fine but never stop playing your hardest. What message does that give to our kids when they are competing against kids from around the globe who will do whatever it takes.

Makes me sad for the country.

Backups were probably already in there, so I'm okay with what the Mad Hatter chose to do, but if I'm Houston Nutt, I do the same thing and just keep trading "knees". That would be HILARIOUS, especially if I've just been embarrassed on my own field by 7 TDs.

It's not insulting, but still wrong. Put the backups out there and call a bunch of runs. A little playing time for them couldn't hurt, and no one would think they're running it up with run plays and the backups.

I can't believe it's even a discussion. Anyone who thinks it wasn't classy has probably never played football and therefore never played on the wrong side of a game that lopsided. The game was over, for BCS "margin of error" purposes the extent of the win was clearly established. Going in for another TD and then possibly getting the ball back withe enough time to score again would have been obnoxious. And this "for the fans" baloney is absurd. They saw 3 3/4 of quarters of boring domination of another team...5 minutes of kneeling on the ball shouldn't have ruined anyone's day.

it was a lot classier than alabama who was up 38=21 over Georgia Southern with 50 seconds left and throwing a TD pass; should have taken a knee.

Houston Nutt is resigning this week--the game was over--why run up the score any more? Not like it was nicky satan--where you need to run up the score for general principle.

Sean Payton did the kneel down for almost the entire 4th quarter a few years back when he faced his old boss, Bill Parcells, and it was like 42-6 to start the 4th. Some coaches don't have to run up the score to boost their egos.

    GEAUX TIGERS!!!

I think the coach was trying to be classy, no way was he trying to rub it in. But with that much time, you've got to at least call some running plays. If he wanted to rub it in he would have callled a play action pass. I think the coach was trying to do an honorable thing and it backfired on him. So I would give him a break in this case.

Agree with struklesee. With over 5 minutes to play, run some plays for the subs. If you're going to take a knee on offense at that point, is the defense going to let Ole Miss run it 98 yards down the field for touchdown after 4 downs? If not, what's the point of not trying on offense if you view offense and defense as opposite sides of the same coin

A "darned if you do, darned if you don't situation". Regardless, that third rate A@@^((# of a "commentator" (or whatever ESPN calls them was totally unqualified to be on a game where a team of LSU's caliber was playing, much less calling attention to what a classless jerk he is.

IMHO, there's nothing to be gained by scoring more points in a game as lopsided as this. Les Miles, who is one of the true sportsmen in the game did what he felt was the right thing, and that's all that matters. Maybe the ESPN idiot should consider applying to be an announcer for the WWE.

if it was last drive or less then two minutes remaining, it would be classy. With over 5 min, i think you have to run the play still, for the back ups and the fans. They did't come to watch a game in which half the quarter would be taking knees regardless of what team they were supporting.

Miles never wanted the previous bootleg play. Making a point to Mettenburger.
