The native village is no different that non native Canada - the rich get richer and poor get poorer. Instead of holding native affairs meetings in posh Ottawa hotels they should all meet in local community halls in the native communities and board with the local people. Also they are trying to solve todays problems with yesterday's solutions; send money.

Our treatment of the native people has been and continues to be an atrocity. It also appears many native leaders are of the same ilk as federal politicians.

If self government means people taking responsibilities for their own well being and not being dependent on Ottawa then self government is the way; for all Canadians

The root of the problem is the Canadian Government. The Canadian Government is wreckless when it comes to most everything. Recently Liz Sandals in the Guelph Provincial Office told me straight out, in her words " The Government has No Conscience".
The First Nations people (Attawapiskat) are a product of our Government. Let the First Nations People distribute the help where they need it most. As a matter of fact we the people don't need Government. We need leadership and accountability. The Government has shown us year after year that they are irresponsible. It doesn't matter who gets voted in.
Never mind putting money into military. I don't want my money going into war. " War is not peace" although they try to manipulate the masses of the people of that. Quality of life for all will bring peace. What's the matter with people falling for the Governments BS. Not only are the First Nations People suffering but many, many people in this country are suffering at the irresponsible hands of our government. We pay them, lets get it together and fire them. We need leadership not organized crime. Wake up, help the First Nations People. Help anyone who needs it, especially when it comes to the basics of life. It's simple. Stop putting money into war and put it into peace and helping each other. Do the math. We could all have a couple acres of land, a home and plenty of food if the Government put there money into peace not war. This whole thing is sickening to me!

Self-government for First Nations is necessary but not sufficient. The historical and ongoing theft of lands and destruction of cultures demand a profound change in Canadian power and politics, if Canada cares to do the right thing.
These changes would require, in addition to self-government, apt resource sharing and a stable and appropriate land base, as well as significant constitutional change, all things that Canada has consistently refused to consider.
Self-government without profound changes in the structure and narrative of this country will only perpetuate the chronic dispossesion and poverty of options facing First Nation peoples, and further aid the uncaring victim blamers we elect to represent our biases.
