What single word best describes the process of the atonement in an individual life and afterlife??
Repentance - the individual appeals to God for forgiveness of individual sins; those sins repented of are not remembered in judgment.
Sanctification - the individual is purified over time and made more godly via attempts at self-improvement and divine intervention.
Election - the individual is chosen by God, despite any flaws they may have; the reason for this choice (beyond the love of God) is mysterious.
Justification - because of covenants made and maintained in life, the individual's sins are declared by God to be invalid for judgment.
Substitution - because of covenants made and maintained in life, Christ substitutes himself for the defendant at the judgment bar.
Empathy - because of his time on Earth, Christ judges each individual life with a complete understanding of mortal frailty and inadequacy, rendering most people worthy of a good afterlife.
Universalism - a necessary mortal experience having been accomplished, God allows all interested children to return to him.
Painkiller - Because sin and guilt are a source of pain, the atonement provides a means to mitigate that pain and allow for peace to develop in an individual.
Payment - Because some higher force, to which we become indebted through our sins, demands payment, the atonement allows Christ to make that payment on our behalf.
Discipleship - the focus of the atonement is in submitting oneself to God's will, becoming his servant, and finding oneself in this process.
Aspirational - It inspires the individual to change, but the change is accomplished solely by the individual; God doesn't intervene.
Restoration - You were divine before you came here; life is about remembering who you really are and becoming that person
Simplicity - Why do you have to complicate things? It is what it is; don't limit it with a definition.
Oppression - It is a means for people to exert power and influence over one another in order to attain their own mortal ends.
Silliness - It is a bunch of people jumping through self-imposed psychic hoops; life would be better if you let it all go.
Kinship - Once you are sealed/adopted into the family of God, then only the most grievous sin will prevent our ultimate reunion.
Liberation - Because He lived and died to save others from oppressive powers, so must I live; atonement is fundamentally about overcoming oppression, be it by sin or people
Zion - Christ, representing the Godhead, provides himself as a violence ending master, to bring humanity together in peace and indwelling love with one another and with God.
