I wish darmody was still alive unfortunately for the writers i believe they are trying to stick to historicall facts and a made up character such as darmody needs to go, nucky thompson died of natural causes so well see him in the end a winner everyone else is irrelovent

I will just say this, if I don't see more of Richard Harrow, if the writers even THINK about killing my boo...things will get very nasty.
That being sad, I am very upset about Jimmy's demise. Almost enough to boycott.
    But like I said...

yes, i will watch, but much more happily now. jimmy was annoying. the actor who plays him is ueber annoying...trying way too hard to be a cool-cat gangster. puleeease, he behaved like a thumb, and i'm glad that over-actor trying to under-act is gonezo.

Sign the petition if you think the writer's made a huge mistake. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/3/bring-james-jimmy-darmody-back-from-the-dead/

I hope, that it is all a dream, Jimmy was drunk as you all recall, perhaps he is lying in a alley somewhere. If he is dead so is the show as far as I am concerned. Prohibition is one thing, proved they couldn't retain booze from the people. They are all gangsters but we all liked the war hero and all he wanted was to have a little piece of the action. I hope the show falls flat on it's tail!

Jimmy did give the order to have Nucky killed.. but he never wanted it. He always had a love for him as his father in the back of his mind but was always pressured and pushed by his mother and the people around him. He didn't deserve to die and if anything, Eli did. Eli lied to Nucky, as it WAS his idea to have him killed. He was the one who betrayed Nucky out of jealousy and was too dumb to realize that everything Nucky did would work out best for him in the end.

Now the fact that Nucky killed Jimmy doesn't make sense with his character.. which is that he always kinda knows what's best and who's really screwing him around. He made a huge mistake here..
Nucky didn't have it in him to kill his own "son". So.. the way it went down.. just didn't fit with the rest of the series.. huge mistake by the writers here..

The series all the sudden has no lovable messed up hero.. who you hope will end up doing the right thing.. because he did try to do the right thing.. and then gets killed.. soo now we're left with a bunch of old people.. and no characters worth loving or caring about because they are all so damn crooked and self serving. Jimmy was the one person in the whole show who was always just trying to please everyone around him.

I'll find it hard to watch another season about Nucky and Margrette... and a bunch of rifraf wanna be gangsters who (in history ended up being people..) but in Empire are really nothing interesting without Jimmy..

And.. okay for awhile Nucky had our sympothy but.. after killing Jimmy.. I really don't care what happens to the bastard.. now if he had killed Eli instead.. and given Jimmy his revenge.. and partnered up with him to take back the boardwalk.. it would look up to be an interesting 3rd season. Now what.. Ohh.. there going to get into heroin.. and its just going to be a big depressing downer season 3..

I was disappointed by Jimmy's demise, even though I expected it eventually. I would have loved to have seen Jimmy is several more seasons but it is what it is. I really thought Nucky thought of Jimmy as a son and would try to reconcile but it wasn't to be. Great unpredictability in this show, I am just bummed out that Michael Pitt's great character is no more. :(

I'm bummed that Michael Pitt is gone, but looking forward to seeing what he'll be doing next. Fine actor with a "great face" he should go far!

Of course I'll continue to watch "Boardwalk" their writers are courageous and I love Steve B. All the clothes on Steve B. are beautiful. I hate that those "great shoes" at the beginning of the show get wet............................................

We're all shocked to lose such a dynamic, interesting character - especially a death that most of us didn't see coming. But will I watch Boardwalk Empire next year? ABSOLUTELY! Jimmy was a fascinating character to experience, but others will inevitably fill that void. I have faith in the writers to introduce equally interesting and unique characters moving forward.

Michael Pitt has shown his acting abilities to be outstanding. I look forward to his next project.

I will not watch boardwalk empire without jimmy. All the other 's are boring, and now I hate nucky.

Killing Jimmy was a mistake. That did it for me! HBO needs to re-think renewal. I think they lost at the very least 50% of their audience.

  • yvonne - 12 years ago

It upset me greatly that they killed off Jimmy's character, but I understand why. Jimmy did a lot of dirt, including killing his father and that's one you can't come back from. He even slept with his mother, for pete's sake! Think about it. They had to redeem Jimmy. But we wouldn't have liked it if they made him a wuss. Killing him made him a hero because he took care of business before he died. I really will miss him though. Will I watch next season? They're going to really need to make the show even more compelling because this season, even with Jimmy, they had a few boring episodes.

I may be echoing what everyone else has already said in one form or another, but killing Jimmy has pretty much killed the show for me. He was the reason that I, too, watched. I have NEVER posted a comment anywhere, ever, for anything before, but that gives you just an inkling of how upset I was at the end of this show. Mr. Winter has seriously underestimated his audience, I'm afraid. He states in his interview that he took a gamble. Well, he lost, at least for me. Without Michael Pitt's eloquent and multi-layered performance, there is no longer a show of interest for me. I wish it luck and a long run, but I shall turn my attention elsewhere. I simply no longer care what happens to any of the remaining characters.

You should read the writer's interview. Good stuff:

You have to question if your reaction isn't the exact result they were going for by NOT GIVING the viewer what they wanted or expected. I was upset like a lot of people and didn't see it coming, but since I didn't see it coming, perhaps that is what is most interesting. Nucky creates a lot of movement based on situation but seemed like he was going flat -- now there's a new dimension that allows me to love to hate him. Manny is an interesting character who seemed like your typical sacrificial character and we all knew he'd get it... now that he hasn't, I'm suddenly more curious about where he goes from here. Where does the mom character go? Is Richard going to go crazy killer nutz? And the signing over of the land added a little finger in the air to Nucky from Margaret. If you think about it, the characters were all becoming a little pigeon-holed, but suddenly none of them did what you expected. That makes it more interesting to me to see what happens next. Jimmy is dead, but I don't think it was in vain. Rest in peace Jimmy... I'll miss you... but let's not forget this is all for entertainment and like Maximus proclaims: "Were you not entertained?!!!"

I am so upset that jimmy has been shot. Although there are many victims in this story I felt that jimmy,s character was the most sympathetic and I am somewhat in love with the actor- what a face! Bring him back !

  • Ian - 12 years ago

Absolute bullshit that they killed him off.
The unpredictability of this character (Jimmy) is what kept me sitting on the edge of my seat throughout the last two seasons. The murder of James was the murder of the sheer excitement of this series. I feel this was a MAJOR writing mistake for this show. It is going to be quite difficult for me to sit back down to watch the next season - I don't think I will be able to sit through a season without Jimmy. However, I do look forward to seeing what this young actor will be doing with his bright future. I would not be surprised if he already has Hollywood producers knocking on his door with movie offers.
