Is Tim Tebow getting too much credit for Broncos' success?

The Denver Broncos are winning despite Tim Tebow. The proof is in his stats that all quarterbacks are judged by. The Broncos have a great defense and running game that is making it possible for them to stay in games. He is to be applauded for not turning the ball over. And please stop with the hype: "They are playing harder for him", please.

  • BillyJoeBob - 12 years ago

Tim is a religious guy. Whatever gets him through. However, I believe he has said that he does not give credit to God for winning football games. After all, why would God be concerned about something so insignificant as a football game? Right or wrong, quarterbacks are given too much credit for winning or for losing. Without question though, the quarterback is the leader of the team. What do leaders do? They inspire. They get their team to believe in themselves and the team. Has Tebow done this? Without question. The quarterback also it the main player to get his teammates in a position to do their thing to be successful so the team can win. Has Tebow done this? Without question. Has he received too much credit for the Broncos winning? No. Without question.

P.S. The league should be very scared, when they realize he is getting better, by leaps and bounds, every single week. He has always been the hardest working person on whatever team he has been on. If he continues that work ethic, he COULD become the "new standard" of quarterback that everyone thought Michael Vick would be. If his pocket passing game improves by only 50%, he will be the most dangerous player in the game.

  • william moore - 12 years ago

I am a huge Tebow fan, since his days in high school even. He IS getting too much credit, but that goes with being a quarterback. If they had lost all of these games, he would be getting the blame. He is very clearly the catalyst on a team full of players that have never reached their potential, and it is undeniable that they play harder for him than they ever did Orton. So, while he deserves a lot of the credit, as he said in his post game Sunday, he didn't cause any fumbles or kick any field goals, either.

  • john - 12 years ago

No, but Cam newton is not getting enough credit for Carolina's losses.

The media is giving Tim Tebow a bit too much attention, but the majority of the time for idiotically negative reasons. He is aware of the fact that he alone does not carry the Broncos team. In every interview and press conference he consciously and carefully makes this known by giving credit where credit is due to his fellow teammates.

At this point, we all realize that Tebow, himself, as well as, the Bronco's coaching staff understand that his mechanics are not of a typical quarter back, but nothing is typical about him. In some peoples eyes, this is too much of a challenge to overcome. What! Work with someone so they can improve their already given abilities, rather then trying to make them fit a predetermined mold? That's like trying to say a round peg must fit in a square hole, the concept just doesn't fit the standards of common sense.

It seems we have all forgotten that due to the now instant gratification world we live in, through hard work, practice, and patience one can become better skilled. None of us start out knowing it all, or being the best. But, if you do, then that's great for you; may your head never grow larger than the door frames you encounter. However, for the rest of us, we must continuously work hard to achieve the best possible.

We think athlete and celelbrities have it all and get it so fast, but doesn't the media make it look that way?
In a media crazed world where athletes and celebrities get attention for all the wrongs things, here is a courageous, God fearing man that seems to be doing the right things, even off the field. Yet, the media doesn't seem to say that too much. It seems they would prefer to catch him off guard, find a weakness, or criticize his faith in Jesus Christ before owning up to the fact that he could be the real deal of a nice, honest, and hardworking man. It should be obvious by now that Tim Tebow is the real deal, on all the right accounts.

Yes, he is passionate about the game of football, however, we don't mock or criticize that.
More than likely because those who report football are also passionate about it, and understand that.

Yes, he does also bring his love for Jesus Christ, his savior, wherever he goes and includes Him in whatever he does. What is wrong with that? So often others fear what they themselves do not know, or understand. Therefore, it is mocked and crucified.

Should we not at least respect the beliefs and passion of others, even though they themselves may not believe likewise, or have the same passion for something?

All the negative comments and bashing of Tebow brings up questions, as to what is happening to the media in America? Has it twisted its coverage so far left that we do not see a good righteous role model standing on the field, even when he is currently the most talked about subject? Can we not be positive rather than negative about his playing, or for the Broncos' in general?

There is a place for criticism, but it should constructive, not down right crude.
That being said and despite the negative media, we are all still amazed by Tebow's abilities when it comes down to clutch time. Even still, isn't it more amazing to see how well each player works within the Bronco's team as they step up together, working as a whole, to get the win continuously?

Could it be possible that what we have seen each week in growth on the game day field is simply a reflection of the leadership role Tebow has as QB within the Broncos? It seems likely, due to the fact that his teammates, coaches, and family members often speak of his good winning attitude all across the board. Therefore, wouldn't that attitude naturally manifest within his teammates and coaches as well? Thankfully, for Tebow and the Bronoco's a winning attitude all week in practice is producing winning numbers on the game day field thus far.

However, the media spins it, whether it be negative, or in praise, I look forward to seeing what happens next for T

Sports commentator said Tebow games have God's intervention! Good grief, with the latest stats showing 44% of Native American babies dying at birth because of poverty and poor health care in the U.S., God is intervening in football games because Tebow prays? Gomme a break!

  • Carl Johnson - 12 years ago

Tebow deserves credit for inspiring or motivating his team. Nothing more. Furthermore, a lot of that inspiration is due to the hype of the media. It appears that not only has media hype convinced a lot of sports fans that Tebow is doing something special, but that his teammates seem to have bought in on this media frenzy too.

Just look at their last win again Chicago. It's hard to convince me that Tebow had anything to do with Marion Barber running out of bounds and stopping the clock when the game had already been won by Chicago if he had stayed inbounds. It wasn't Tebow's hand that stripped the ball from Barber in O/T when they were in field goal range and could have won the game again. It wasn't Tebow's foot that kicked a 59 yard field goal that kept Denver in the game. Tebow didn't play on the defensive squad that played lights out defense, as they also did in previous wins. In fact, what did Tebow do to get the credit for their recent win against the Bears, as well as many of the others? He didn't have to do anything. Media and adoring fans simply bestowed it on him.

  • Annie - 12 years ago

No! Because bottom line, it's not about Tim Tebow, it's about God. The fact that he's continued to "turn the other cheek" from all the ugly hatred that has spewed up towards him since he joined the Broncos and from the Media's apparent dislike of him speaks volume. Tebow is a good guy. He's a team player. People would do well to follow his lead.

You know that it’s all of the Naysayers who will do anything to bring him down, hope for his failure, etc. etc? With that you know whose team they are playing on - don’t forget that! This is from a person who could care less about the Gators, Broncos, or football for that mater, and a person who lives in Tebow’s home town and have watched this remarkable man never back down from a challenge and push forward no matter what all the "EXPERTS" say, sadly before I came to understand his character and his influence I was frankly tired of hearing about him! Now I can’t get enough, he is one of most positive public figurers we have today. And this is the best part which I love about him, he takes no credit, he has remained humble and he is the type of role model our broken down, depraved, lazy and godless society Needs and a not moment to soon. I will be cheering him on no matter where he plays, I will be pray for him to have continued success in all of his endeavors even football!

The answer is yes. Credit first goes to Marion Barber, a stupid move to go out bounds, then to Elvis Dumervil, a sweet forced fumble, then to Matt Pratter, for not just 1 but 2 amazing fifty+ yard kicks.

I think it's his attitude and leadership more than his skills that have effected the success of the Broncos. It's like Elway said, "Everyone believes that something good's going to happen, and obviously, Tim's been the guy that's led that thinking. He's just such a strong believer. He's really got everyone else believing if you stay strong, stay positive, something good's going to happen. When guys are thinking that way — and it's been led by Timmy with that positive attitude — all boats have been rising with that."

  • nicole - 12 years ago

After watching the game yesterday, tim is not taking all the credit. In a interview yesterday, after the game, he clearly said his teammates made him look better then he is and says thanks to our savior Jesus Christ. GO BRONCOS AND TIM! :D

  • Tony - 12 years ago

In my opinion being a quarterback involves many intangibles. Tim has leadership ability, confidence, and is very competitive. You can't underate a strong faith in God which he also appears to have. He's apparently a very hard worker and who knows how far he can go.

Denver gave up on the season before placing him at QB when they traded Lloyd to St. Louis. The team, coaches, and ownership did not expect this to happen; Tebow has turned this team around with his leadership. Yes, Denver's D has played a roll as well in the teams success, but this is the same D that was their when the team was 1-4. He has elevated the team with his leadership. Personally, I'm from WI. I love the Packers and what they are doing, however I hope the Broncos go to the Super Bowl and beat the Packers. Why, because A. Rodgers is the most self center player in the league. The only reason he is putting up the numbers he has is because of the players around him. He is the opposite of Tebow. Just yesterday after getting blind sided by a Raider defender; that same defender put out his hand to help him up. He just looked up at him than turned his back and got up himself after cursing him out. After a game you will never hear him give any praise to the great catch his receiver made. It is only I was on today, not thanks to my receivers I did not through five int's.

I'm sick of so called experts saying Tebow can't play. Rodgers throws the ball three ft over a players head, forcing that player to risk his career and he is a great QB. He will throw the ball an inch of the ground and the receiver had to come back to the ball and the broadcaster will say it was a great throw. Don't get me wrong Rodgers is a good QB, but I have seen Tebow make the same throws that these Rodgers makes and he gets no credit. If Tebow had three of the Packer receivers the Broncos would be a Super Bowl lock.

Just listening to these games and the way people love one player and hate on another; I just want to throw something at the TV. One last example, one broadcaster was remarking how it is hard to catch a Tebow pass because you don't know where the ball is going to be. Are you crazy, I saw five or more passes that were right at chest leave in the center of the players body and the player dropped the pass. Tebow's problem is his receivers should be on a practice squad or in the Arena league. Does he have some bad throws, yes he throws several bad passes a game. He just does not have the luxury of receivers that will come back to a poorly thrown ball or can jump three ft in the air and make that grab.

  • dweeb - 12 years ago

No-he doesn't claim it and gives credit to Jesus Christ, his team and the coaching. The only folks giving him too much credit are the media. Most of "them" don't seem to listen to what the man says regarding "credit" and it seems like they are getting ready for him to fail so they can pile on. Why can't we just enjoy the excitement; this guy does deserve credit for putting excitement and interest back into the game. The Bengal's are a close second....what a great season!

  • Bw. - 12 years ago

Tebow, isn't the average everyday quarterback. As if no one has noticed. He brings a whole new element to the game. He puts the the " T " back in team. Unselfish, not cocky, giving credit where its due. With the lack of weapons at receiver, Tebow's leadership, I think keeps these guys going. What was a sub-par defense, has stepped up & said, " We Believe "

  • Graham - 12 years ago

Although Tim Tebow inherited a losing situation, he chose not to blame George W Bush but applied himself to the situation and is getting the job done. Interesting what a little faith and guts can do to turn bad circumstances around, is it not? A rare comodity these days. You go Tebow!

  • Ben - 12 years ago

The Broncos are winning games but they are way to close for comfort. Overall this is a good team that cannot play 4 quarters of football and have been LUCKY that other teams have not figured out how to score on their defence. I belive Tim Tebow is a bum and untill him and his team can manage to play a complete game he is a mediocre player at best. It will be good to see what Bill Belichick and the pats do next weekend against them.

  • Tebow, please - 12 years ago

Of course hes gettin too much credit, and its so obvious, whyt, christian QB capturing the "hearts & minds" of "true" americans. fk outta here.

  • Burnette - 12 years ago

If anything Tebow has been doubted more than other QB's. Hence this article.....The only reason is because he is not afraid to voice his beliefs. He doest always throw a perfect spiral, he doesn't stay in the pocket most of the game....so what! He was the right ingredient to the chemistry of the Bronco's. Call it a higher power, God, Jesus, Mother Mary or just the Bronco's its proof you don't have to stack a team to be winners...look at the the Eagles....no chemistry. Go Tebow

To the comment made by that person calling themself "God." You are probably right, God probably doesn't really care who wins a football game in the grand scheme. But God's delights in those who bring Glory to Him. He shows Himself to us through other people who bring Glory to Him. I can't think of a better public example of someone bringing Glory to God, rather than to himself than Tim Tebow right now. Is he perfect? No, but right now he is humbly bringing Glory to his maker, and I believe in this way God can & will continue to use him in this way if it is His will... so does God care about the football game, no... what He cares about is us humbly bringing glory to Him - which is exactly what Tebow is doing.

This is what the LORD says:
“Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the LORD.
    Jeremiah 9:23-24

Tim's an awesome athlete. I believe one of the only reasons that this is being questioned is because he decided to thank God for his successes. Let the man thank who he wants. I thank God everyday, of course, on a much smaller scale. God bless you Tim!

The quarteback in football is important ....and most times is the leader so in saying that look at the colts, Manning has not played one a game this year and the TEAM has not won a single quarter let alone a game..so who deserves the cridit wen a team wins?

Tim Tebow is a great leader and a very talented football player, but if you listended closer to his post game interviews you would notice that he not only thanks God, but also give full credit for the win to the entire Denver Broncos's team for their effort and play. Besides being very taleneted, he is humble. It is the media that is givng him more credit than even he believes he deserves.

Being a died heart FIn fan.its so rewarding that a player can elevate his teammates to excellence and play as a team.yesterdays game prove that wth the kicker hitting a 59 yd to tie the game then come back hit 51 yd after a frozen timeout ,now that's leadership. Tibow s will to. His will to win is a gift that he shares with his temmates ,that is why he is special not the best QB but a leader ! God bless Tibow

  • rv - 12 years ago

Tim Tebow took a team in dead last to a team in first. Talk all you want about how he gets help from the defense (which he is) but they all rallied around HIM. Its no concidence that when Tebow got to start that everyone played better. His charisma forces others to play better. So yes, he is getting a ton of help; but only because of what a special player he is.

  • revumm - 12 years ago

Aparently Tim adds a dimension of charismatic leadership - somebody the troops have confidence in and are willing to follow. That is called "Being a Winner".

You Go Tim T you were the best in Gator Nation, now you are showin up in NFL that you can play with the big man! The Lord is with you on the field , in your heart. Never give up! Now go out there and beat the Pats you can do it. COME ON MAN!!!!

I wish that all athletes would have such a track record showing that our ability comes from a higher power. Tim Tebow has never once tried to bring the attention to himself for any of the things that he has accomplished in his life. There are so many people out there trying to make him something that he is not. I applaud his parents and the job that they have done to raise a "geniune kind and respectful" young man.
Also, all those sports announcers that sit around the table discussing "his lack of talent" need to remember that he is a remarkable young man who is doing the very best he can. It is always so easy to find something bad to say instead of something kind. Remember that famous saying, "If you can't say something nice - then don't say anything at all.
I close by saying that I am a fan because this young man is what we need more of in the sports world today!

Tebow is someone who can get everyone around him to play as a team not individuals. Just need the recievers to catch and some of the complaining about his throwing would stop. And lets not forget Von Miller defence rookie of the year!!!

  • julie - 12 years ago

Chuck, to your comment of if the quarter back wouldn't have 3 or more quarters of ineffective play??? (a few of those passes where more than catchable) is the reason he gets the credit. He is the FIRST to be criticized with the losses by the media. Its no doubt the whole team, they rally together. THEY are winning, which tebow has NEVER refuted. Such a CLASSY guy. Too bad others arent. :(

  • Hank Reardon - 12 years ago

Denver was struggling going nowhere until Tebow took the reins.. I'm a Charger fan but I've watched him grow so much in the last 7 weeks that it's hard to root against this kid.. As far as his faith goes whatever floats his boat.. It's his talent that has him where he's at!!!

  • Foster Werner - 12 years ago

Tim Tebow provides a level of leadership and inspiration that along with the plays he makes as an individual he lifts his team to achieve victory. He is just another example of what a true and authentic leader can do whether in business like Steve Jobs or the quarterback of a football team or an army like George Washington.

  • Caroline - 12 years ago

Tim Tebow knows that life has its ups and downs, but He also knows that GOD will never leave him nor forsake him, in the good or the bad. Tim said this prayer in his younger days and it changed him forever: he said: "Jesus I believe you died on that cross for my sins and that you are my savior, Jesus please come into my heart and live forever." After he said that prayer, Tim's life changed forever, and now he gives GOD credit for everything and keeps his thoughts on his Savior. Tim knows that JESUS is with him forever and will always come to his aid in good and bad. That simple prayer did the same for me, thank you JESUS.

  • Dan Bontrager - 12 years ago

The main reason the Broncos are winning is Tim Tebow. Not because of his arm or his feet but his ability to rally his team and make them play as a team. He makes people want to be great.

  • God - 12 years ago

Hey, kids, I really don't care who wins a football game. It's just not that important in my grand scheme of things. Thanks for listening, have a great day!

  • I believe - 12 years ago

It's great to see an underdog who sport writers gave no hope too, out shine them with class. And people rally around good guys who have incredible character and great humbleness and believe in god.

  • Barry - 12 years ago

I believe Tim Tebow does not want the honor and glory, he truly wants GOD to have it. I really believe he gives GOD credit for everything in his life and football is just 1 part of his life. Yes, he would say it is not him, it is his teamates, but I guarantee you he gives 100% credit to GOD. The Good Lord wants us to give HIM thank for everything, it is right there in the Bible and Tim knows this.

  • Dale Zeller - 12 years ago

The "media" are the ones over hyping Tebow. He is certainly humble about it and knows that he is just one part of a team effort. The Bears committed errors leading to their loss BUT the Broncos took advantage and numerous players, including Tebow, contributed clutch performances at the end...especially their kicker who hit two 50 plus yard field goals under pressure.

  • Caroline Martin - 12 years ago

I think Tebow is getting alot of credit, as do other quarterbacks I can think of. But this new quarterback passes that credit right on to a higher power. If we all would take a lesson from his acts the world would be in a much better condition than we see ourselves in today. I'm a new Denver fan because of watching Tim. Roll Tide!

  • Jim Wynn - 12 years ago

The guy is good. I watched him play at Florida during his college days. He did the same thing then that he is doing now. He will get even better with time.

  • Tom Folkes - 12 years ago

Had he gotten more help during the rest of the game this would not be a miracle. He seems to generate something beyond himself. Even the defense wants to watch him! Clearly, he is not the only player on this team but he does seem to be the difference maker.
