Should the use of personal electronic devices be banned while driving?

First off, even if you make it illegal, people will still do it. Do people speed and drink n drive? Of course! What's wrong with bluetooth and voice activated instructions? How is that any different from talking to people in the car? It's the people pressing on the touchscreen and especially writing out a text message that are dangerous.

the car is a PED. seriously! you have gps, radio controls, mp3/ipod controls, temp controls, cruise control. if you have a fancy car, you have tv controls and more temp controls for the back passengers.

it is not an issue with PEDs, they will always exist and are meant to assist the driver. it is when the driver is focused on too many things at once or when one of the functions of the PED supersedes the primary task of driving that it becomes an issue.

if you are going to outlaw PEDs, then outlaw Mary K and The Wall St Journal too, because i have seen these objects distract the driver. while you are at it, ban Benji, Norelco and Count Chocula! it's called personal accountability, y'all. And they'll pay severely if they hit u while distracted. the police already have the tools to stop wrongdoers (careless/reckless driving)...just don't record them with your smartphone if you are driving. ;-)

There are times would you should not be talking on the cell phone. The common sense thing is that you do not talk on your cell phone during rush hour traffic, ice storms and other type situations. Those of you who do talk on the phone during rush stand out like a sore thumb. Also don't blame teenagers for doing it, they learn it from their parents.
