How often or to what degree do you recycle sermons?

• I wrote a 3 year cycle when the 3 year lectionary came out. I enjoy the feel of the crinkled yellowing notes in the pulpit.

• It depends... Has this congregation heard this sermon before? If yes, do some tinkering, if no, recycle.

• I use previous sermons as a base and edit some and use fresh illustrations if needed.

• I sometimes look over my old stuff, but usually I write something new.

• I write something new unless I'm in a real bind and then I might recycle.

• No! Each preaching moment must be a fresh expression of biblical and theological truth.
