I would like to see the Columbus Arena Distrcit idea but the area buidling itself something like the Pepsi Centre. The open concept, glass walls and such are good ideas but I would wonder how those design fit into our extreme cold climate. Also, is Katz Group going to be funding 90% of it like the Columbus model? I think since a hockey team is a priviate entity, (though many think it bring city pride and that it belongs to the city), and the owner always has the right to move the team away, it should be run and funded as a private entity. The city should maintain the right for property tax and corporate tax. Or make it a true partnership - split the cost and profit. I support the building of a downtown arena district, but I am not sure if the Katz group proposed model is the best for the city in the long run.
