Remarkable things here. I am very satisfied to see your article.

Thanks so much and I'm looking ahead to contact you.

Will you please drop me a mail?

I would love one of your cookbooks. I would hope that you would offer some commentary along with each recipe, or the story of when you made it and served it, but definitely some current event remarks for each entry!

I look forward to your cookbook!!!!! I read your blog and share it with my kids.
    So keep on going.

I would LOVE a cookbook from a couple of grandmas!!!! (not to mention how much the two of them remind me of me and my best friend...when I came across her Thanksgiving letter I immediately thought...OMG! It's me and Danise in 15 or 20 years!) I've unfortunately lost my grandmother who I think was much like Helen and Margaret...most of my memories of Grandma's house involved lots of food and eating and took place in the kitchen...I miss her and I miss her recipes. I think I've gotten my love of cooking (with "real food" like you're supposed to cook) from her but unfortuneately don't have her expertise written down so I can follow in her footsteps. To have a cookbook written by your Grandma would SO be then next best thing! Sign me up!!!

    Definitely!! I'll buy several!!

I would love a cookbook by these wonderful ladies. I collect cookbooks and at this point have more 150. The ones that I love most are the ones with the antidotes. I know there would be many from both these ladies and that would make the book so more enjoyable.

Go to it, Ladies, and definitely spice it up with some good commentary. I'll lay in a good supply of butter in anticipation, and promise to buy extra copies for my friends. And good on ya, Matt, for all you do!

The cookbook would be especially great if it included comments from these two wise, hilarious women!

Just found this blog and I love it. I have a best friend here who is Margaret and Helen's age and is just like them. She makes my day! I look forward to every post and sharing with all my friends!

Was sent this blog by a friend for the insightful political commentary and humor. Great blog, but I also love cooking and am proudly in posession of both my mother's and grandmother's handwritten recipe books. ( both have passed) Would love to see what these two ladies will cook up - both on the blog and in a recipe book. I will be here daily reading the blog and hope to bump into an announcement about a cook book.

I, too, would like to read anything these ladies write. As to having it produced, I'm begging you, talk to me first. Self-publishing can be a terrific idea, but it can also be just a sink down which you pour money. Just to be clear, I'm not in any way angling for the contract: I only publish mystery fiction, and have no financial interests in any printing companies. But I've been around the publishing block several times now, and would like to help.

I would love to buy this cookbook! I look forward to doing so. Many thanks to both of you ladies for your wonderfully perceptive and funny writings. Also thanks to your grandson for his work.

This sounds like a project that was tailor made for kickstarter!

  • MtnMama - 12 years ago

I believe I'd read anything these ladies write!

  • M Davis - 12 years ago

My favorite cookbook is inherited from my mom. It is a comprehensive one from WW II; the rationing section may come in handy yet. It has a recipe for squirrel in it, the only one I have seen.
So a cookbook from Helen & Margaret would not be my favorite (sorry), but I bet it would be second fave forever!
Thanks for floating the idea and poll, and I hope it happens!

I'll buy it. I'll buy several. Especially if she puts some commentary into the mix.

  • Gladys Van Drie - 12 years ago

Would love to get your cookbook. Please include the Thanksgiving bacon with dressing. Love you blog and your feisty spirits Keep up the good work ladies. Your grandson is very special.

One of my most beloved cookbooks is about 40 years old and a collection of recipes from mothers of my grade school days classmates and local church members. I know you might be looking into glossy productions but mine is simply typed, mimeographed (ah yes no computer or copier in those days), a heavier (weight wise) colored paper cover and spiral bound. It has survived without the need for hard bound covers or glossy photos so a recipe, a bit of background on the recipe, or just a few words of wisdom included and I'd pay happily - sometimes simplicity is more of a treasure than the alternative. Any collection from your Grandmother and her friends would be a treasure for a lot of people who admire, respect and appreciate both ladies.

Also thank you for all your help in giving your Grandmother an audience.

I just found my first blog!!! I love the thoughts of these ladies.

I think the best cookbook would be this one. I have recipes from my 91 year old grandmother, and she and her friends make the best food.

I would like to see bread, pies and beef stew.

    I'll definitely buy this book.

  • George E. Counts - 12 years ago

Would love to be able to make her Republican Stew! Guess she just puts too much truth in the mix. While the Elephant may not be thin skinned, some of his trolls must be.

    Best wishes!

As a hardcore vegan, I would buy their cookbook as a tribute to their wonderful spirits! I grew up in the south and my most precious keepsakes from my grandmothers are their favorite cast iron skillets. Cooking comes from the soul and Helen & Margaret have so much tasty wisdom to share.

  • Anita Guynn - 12 years ago

Although I love the bacon and butter comments, I hope there are lots of veggie recipes too : )

    Take care.

I think that is a wonderful idea for a new project for your Grandmother. I look forward to cooking some of the recipes and reporting about them on my blog. Please keep us all updated as to how the cook book is coming along. And, my prayers go out to you, your grandmother and the family, on the loss of someone so great.

I am with Wanda and Jeanne on this...

A belated condolences to you and your Grandmother on your loss. Together they must have been quite the couple....

  • Wanda Stout Adams - 12 years ago

I second Jeanne's suggestion. And I'll buy more than one. Just sent the "Cooking with Molly Ivins" to a sister for her birthday. I'll send her a copy of Margaret and Helen's cookbook to her for the next birthday. And there's at least one other person I can think of who'd appreciate a copy for her birthday.

And belated condolences to you and to Helen on the death of your grandfather

  • Jeanne Stovall - 12 years ago

And please include some of their greatest commentaries, especially those that mention food and Thanksgiving!

  • Savannah Blaze Lee - 12 years ago

You are a lovely young man and an appropriate legacy to your Grandmother's good sense. We should all have a grandson who does something this thoughtful.
