How does the third or fourth best offensive catcher NOT make the Hall of Fame ? If you think Ivan Rodriguez is a HOF er and while his career batting average is 25 points higher then Jorge's Jorge's OBA of 374 is nearly 25 points higher then I ROD without any suspicion of Steroid use. While I think he is on the borderline I think he enters the HOF

No way is he a Hall of Famer. As much I admired him, his numbers are simply not there. For the Yankee fan who cited Bill Dickey: he batted .313 for his career--a 19 year career. That's a big reason why he's in the hall. Leave the HOF for greats, not goods.

I think he is is a Hall of Fame player, he has more HR's and World Series titles than Kirby Puckett, Robby Alomar, and Barry Larkin who are all in the HOF. None of them were catchers, a more demanding position. He has more HR's than Bill Dickey who is in the HOF.

No way. Only because he played for the Yankees in this question being asked. If he had played say for any number of teams such as Tampa, Seattle, Houston, or Pittsburgh, the question (and poll) would've never happened. His retirement announcement would not have been front page, but under the heading, "in other baseball news..."

Some sites teased with the line "Yankee Great to Retire". he was good, but definitely not great. Great is reserved for the like of Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Mantle, and Berra, and not much past that. He does not belong in the same sentence as those great players.

Again, only because he played in New York.

If Posada gets into the Hall of Fame it will open the door for many good players who have never gotten in. Sorry, he didn't put up the numbers. He was not a dominant catcher during his era. A good ballplayer who would never even be considered if he hadn't played for the Yankees when they had Jeter. Next question.

Posada is a credit to the Yankees, a credit to longevity, a credit to baseball and a great family man but not a hall of famer. Had he gotten to 300+ homeruns, 2,000+ hits, had over 1000 runs scored and won an MVP or two we might have a stater. The numbers he put up and his career with the Yankees earn him a place in the Yankee honor roll but not in the most exclusive club in all of sports.
