TRY THIS SUGGESTION, B.A.G.! Someone amazingly like you is doing the exact same thing right now, and has come up with an excellent option. Visit the site, "poorgirleatswell.com" . Poor girl is almost exactly like you...a wonderful writer and wonderful person who was wiped out financially, then also reduced to having almost no income but plenty of health problems.
While she is more invested in cooking than you are, she has asked herself the exact same question you are posing and come up with a way she can give her cookbook a try without expending capital that she doesn't have.
I have also noticed more and more advertising on her website. Good! That's money for a poor girl. Perhaps you can line up similar ads for yours.
You are such a wonderful soul. I do so wish you well.

I'm already contemplating dancing naked around a raging bond fire fed by my vast cookbook collection (which includes The Food Stamp Gourmet, Mastering the Art of French Cooking and everything in between) because I'd just die if my epitaph were to say "She was a great cook".
On the other hand, why not add one more to the pyre?
