Will tablet sales eventually surpass PC sales?

It would be interesting to see how many people own PCs and don't own tablets, then see how many people own tablets and don't own PCs and compare tthe numbers. Remember, sales are only part of the picture. People don't buy what they already have.

I think part of this is "Apple math". You know, like when they compared sales of books per iPad to books per Kindle. They took the number of books sold on the Kindle (undisclosed by Amazon) and divided by the number of Kindles sold (undisclosed and undiscoverable) and decided X/Y = 3 for all conceivable values of X and Y. Please note the line "Any SINGLE PC manufacturer." Little slight of hand there. Tablets as a category did not outperform PCs as a category, there are just more PC manufacturers.

It depends...Tablets have real problems creating textual content today. However for other types of content and for information retrival they are awesome. We are pretty early in this evolution. Facinating how much we are reducing power consumption by focusing the processor on essentially one set of related tasks at a time.

Must be some Apple fans voting to get 4 yes votes! Tablets sold what just over 1/10 of what PCs sold last year? 15m vs 97m? And someone out there actually believes as a segment they will ever catch PCs? Not hardly, at least not in their current incarnation. PCs and the tablet form factor may collide or coalesce into something else but that's even that is doubtful.
