If you want to destroy two CFL teams, put a team in Saskatoon.

YES, Saskatoon is a big enough centre to support a CFL team, IF there was not already a team situated in Regina BECAUSE Saskatchewan is not a big enough province to support TWO teams! End of story.

I love the Saskatchewan Roughriders. I left my home province in 1979 and still cheer for them, still wearing green while attending other stadiums. Been to them all but one. When I was a season ticket holder we travelled to other provinces to cheer the green on. I was born and raised in Regina but when I cheer for the Riders I'm cheering for the whole province not just one city of 20% of it's population. The Riders can't stay alive unless the whole province supports them. That's one of it's attractions. People from other provinces realize the people of Saskatchewan must be special in order for the Riders survive. It's a community of not just one city but the whole province. If a team were placed in Saskatoon then the people of southern Saskatchewan, including Regina, would have to support the northern team. It' ain't going to happen. So it's one team for the province and that's Regina where it's been almost forever. If the way Saskatchewan is growning continues, instead of even considering a second CFL franchise in the province, Saskatoon should try for a NHL franchise. Let it be know out there. Even that would be years and years away. The city would likely need a million plus in order for that to happen unless they got the support from the people of southern Saskatchewan including Regina, then maybe it would need to be only half a million. Why a million when other teams wern't a million when they got a NHL team? It's because when Saskatoon is a million people Quebec City could be two million and Halifax and Hamilton and London could be the same. It will take time. The people of southern Saskatchewan will remember that people from northern Saskatchewan supported the team from the south so when it's their turn to support a team in the north there's a far greater chance of that happeneing and the northern team surviving. So to the people of northern Saskatchewan, please support the Riders. Please don't try and duplicate or try to replace something great that's happening to make the entire province looks special to other provinces. The Saskatchewan Roughriders have a lot of respect from the citizens of other provinces for the reasons stated above. With love from Calgary.

That's like opening two gas stations from the same company on the same block. We live in SK not AB or ON or even BC. Give it up ... you barely can even break even with the Saskatoon Blades as is. Just be thankful we have a CFL Team in the province and appreciate it rather than trying to be the big kid that wants ALL the toys. If Saskatoon was seen as a viable alternative why is the next team scheduled for east/east coast? You really think they'll open ANOTHER western team with only 4 in the east ... including Winnipeg. Can you say oversaturation of your market.

Wow, just amazed at the negativity in the comments. How about a little forward thinking? No, S'toon may not be able to support it now, but in the future yes. As the province grows, and yes, it will grow even if some people don't want it, there is a likelihood of the province being able to support two teams. Somehow, Alberta seems to do it, with a population of say 2 million, who says Saskatchewan couldn't.

Stop being negative and think for the future!

The question is not can Saskatoon support a club, its can Saskatchewan support one. I agree with GEG, the CFL would have to have its head examined if it put another team in SK. Let the citizens of Saskatoon pursue a NHL franchise. The CFL is in Regina to stay and not even politics can change that. Maybe Saskatoon and northern citizens should be lobbying the government for fuel costs on the way to Rider games rather than be Regina haters because we have the PRIDE and the TEAM. We already have a hard time attracting kids to our university sport system here in Regina because we have less programs and attractive ones at that. Do you see us crying for a medicine or law program? No, so Saskatoon, don't even go there. Let it go. Stop and let your city grow and enjoy it. You don't need to meddle in things you can't have.

Its amazing to me how nowadays the media takes a non story and try and make something out of it. Not in your wildest dreams will Saskatoon ever get a cfl team nor could Saskatachewan support two teams. Another year of loosing and the Riders will have trouble filling their stadium.

It's not impossible, but not very probable. For one thing, there is the assumption that, if there were a second CFL team in Saskatchewan, half of the province would drop their love and pride of the Riders to follow them. Given Saskatchewan's Rider Pride, I don't think that will happen any time soon.

It wasnt that long ago that the Riders had trouble filling Taylor Field. Its only been the last few years that they have had any series of sellouts. And it wasnt that long ago when you couldnt give tickets away!!!!With the City of Regina now trying to expand Mosiac, this doesnt make any sense at all. Could see a situation where the Riders play say 1 or 2 games a year in Saskatoon, much like the Packers do in Green Bay where they play one game a year I think in Milwaukee. But this is a total joke.

As a life long resident of Saskatoon for over 50 years, I have seen many changes to the city, both good and bad. A professional sports team would never be successful in a city such as Saskatoon. Ask the late Bill Hunter how his dream of having an NHL team worked out. The citizens of Saskatoon are just not sports minded enough or refined people like they are in Regina and Southern Saskatchewan.

This is the biggest joke yet to come out of the star phoneix and saskatoon. that city really needs to get off its high horse, 2 cfl teams in province that has just over 1mil ppl, is a complete joke. CFL will NEVER take the risk of putting a team in saskatoon, You will see saint john get a team b4 stoon. The only thing this article dose is show the hatered ppl have for regina from saskatoon.
