Was PBC school board right to add Gent as a candidate?

Yes to Wayne Gent. This is a very difficult position and he has proven everyday for months he is up to the task. Why gamble and hope the other candidates can handle this 24/7 job that we know he does well? Keep Wayne!!!!

Unfortunately people may be unaware that Mr. Gent must go through the interview process, which is State law. There are no exceptions. I believe the board made the right decision in inviting him to be part of the candidate pool. Obviously the board did not feel and stated from the start the pool of candidates were not measuring up to what they were looking for. I believe it was a difficult decision for the board to override their own criteria in not considering the interium for a potential candidate. It shows their interest in doing the best thing for the district. It is humbling to publically say we made a mistake and we are correcting it, but the board did this. Congradulations to them. I support Mr. Gent and have no doubt he is the best choice. Congradulations board!

If Gent was the right person then why did the board have him sign a contract to only pi the position until they foumd a replacement? He should of went through the whole interview process....not fair to all the other canidates.

  • Disgusted! - 12 years ago

So you all are telling me the best option is to hire someone who has NEVER had to interview for the position, not even the one he has now? That is very discouraging. If other smaller counties didn't think he would fit the bill there when he did interview why would we consider him? This is disgusting.

  • Duped Again - 12 years ago

Adding WG at this point is just plain wrong. If they had added him in time for him to participate in the circus that they put the other applicants through - that would have been different, but to add him after the interview is just wrong.

I have known Mr. Gent for years and have found him to be an honest, trustworthy, ethical, and delightful man. Our district is in need of someone of his caliber and it's about time! It is now time to move forward and settle down to business. Kudos Mr. Gent, we've needed someone like you for a long time.

  • Anthony - 12 years ago

Wayne Gent is the only choice! He has the experience, ethical value, and common sense needed to lead the district. It is now time to move forward, our children are depending in it.

  • Are You Serious? - 12 years ago

You got to be kidding me..... right now in these perilous times, we need someone who has the ability to make a positive change within our District. Someone who is ethical by nature; someone who will enhance the quality of education our children receives; someone who will rebuild all stakeholders’ trust while at the same, making our children the District’s top priority. That someone is Dr. Andrews. Gent can tell you better than anyone....he has learned a lot from her and still has room to learn more. Remember, they both were once area superintendents.

  • Arthur - 12 years ago

Mr. Gent is not only the right choice, but the only choice. He has brought further stability and good sense to our school district. To not consider him, and select him, would be truly irresponsible of this Board.

  • GAHV - 12 years ago

I believe this is the right decision. The District does not need any more turmoil, our children must come first. Stability is essential to the development of our children. Go Wayne. Do what's right for our children.

This shows how crooked our Board and our School District is. If Gent is allowed to be hired after rules being put in place not allowing his hiring, they are in for a long line of lawsuits! This has caused us to lose the best candidates for the job. Janis Andrews is retiring in 3 years, there is no way she should be of "ANY" consideration. Gent was put on with the understanding he could not be the permanent superintendent. If he is hired, the Teachers, Principals and Employees of PBCSD will lose what little trust they have remaining. Parents, it is your kids who will be hurt in the long run. Line up now and say "NO"! No more corruption in PBCSD. No more corruption on the School Board. This proves how crooked the board is. Everyone needs to be at the next school board meeting and challenge this decision. Since they have no qualified candidates, leave Gent in place until they do. recast the net and stop the BS!

Why is everyone on the Gent KoolAid?> He has a few months on the job and everyone is head over heals for him? I don't get it. Sounds like the unions have done a good job hittin the blogs. Losers.

  • Robin - 12 years ago

Thank God the board came to its senses. Gent was the right choice all along.

  • Bobby T - 12 years ago

Wayne, Wayne, he's our man! If he can't do it no one can!!!!

    Goooooooooooooooo Wayne!!!

  • jenny - 12 years ago

Wayne Gent has done a fabulous job as interim. I am proud of the Board for adding him as a candidate for the permanent job. He is a class act and a true professional. As evidenced by the rally of support for him, he clearly deserves consideration. If our Board members are smart (even though they try to prove otherwise at every opportunity), they will finally get it right and make Gent our choice. I guess we'll find out Wednesday if they finally get something right (and select him).

  • HLynn - 12 years ago

What took them so long? Alot of us knew all along he was the right man for the job. I can't believe it took them so long to figure out what everyone has been saying for the past 4 months.

  • Jon - 12 years ago

I think Mr. Gent will make an excellent superintendent if selected. I am happy the Board is considering him for the permanent job. He clearly has made a positive impression on them during his interim tenure. If he is the one chosen, our community will get behind him as he moves our district forward.

We have six grandchildren in the public school system. My vote, from following the news available to the public, is that Mr. Gent is the best candidate for the position.

  • Todd - 12 years ago

Go Wayne! We hope you are selected!

  • gdiddy - 12 years ago

Rule number one should be that our kids have the best leader possible. If our elected officials feel that this is Wayne Gent, then they are absolutely doing the right thing by truly considering him. If he is selected, he must be doing a great job in his current role as interim.

  • Cole - 12 years ago

Wayne Gent is the best person for the job. He has outstanding credentials and a track record of success. Kudos to the school board for actually doing something right. I was starting to think they were completely incompetent. This action proves me wrong.

  • Gary - 12 years ago

The bottom line is the Board must select the best person. Mr. Gent, arguably, was the most qualified to begin with. If the Board thinks he is the best person to lead the District, then they are right in modifying their original rules in order to do just that, select the best person. I think Mr. Gent will continue to move our District forward.

  • Andrew Petric - 12 years ago

Absolutely yes! We want the best, most professional individual as the superintendent of schools. Mr. Gent is an outstanding leader. Rules are meant to be broken when they benefit the good of the people. My sons both attend elementary schools in the area. I hope he is selected.

  • Jenny - 12 years ago

The responsibility of the Board to the parents and children of Palm Beach County is to select the best candidate for the job period. Please ignore all the irrelevant commentary and focus on selecting the best person for the job. If Mr. Gent is the best person for the job and will do the best job for our children then by all means give him the job.

  • IL - 12 years ago

We are setting our children up for a very bad example. If you tell the kids that you can't do this then change the rules and say ok boundaries are blurred. Very disappointed in PBCSD . Even the public imput was very limited, I went to the Atlantic High meeting for community imput, and we were told they would do the same for the interview process, yet again broken promises.

  • NO - 12 years ago

No, no, what are we teaching our community?

  • JD - 12 years ago

The answer is absolutely "NO"! Play by the rules, Gent signed a contract drawn up by the Board. A contract people! Follow the rules!

  • RM - 12 years ago

Another teachable moment to our kids. Don't worry about setting rules, you can always break them later.
