Who should lead the New Democratic Party?

I am voting for Mr Mulcair. After seeing all the debates, one of them in person, and following their campaigns, I feel Mr Mulcair has the credentials, the intelligence and the character needed to defeat Stephen Harper and take the NDP to the next level.

All this talk of moving the party to the centre is purely media and opponent driven. He hasn't once said anything of the sort and you can look at the proposals on his website to confirm. To say he is not a true New Democrat is ridiculous and in itself is the source of the divisions the opponents "predict".

I am impressed with all of the candidates for different reasons each has particular skills, abilities, and philosophy which resonate with my values and principles. I am supporting Nathan Cullen for my first choice. He has been elected 4 times and he took a conservative seat and has held it. His policies are positive and constructive. He is a willing partner and will cooperate to get thinks done.

  • These polls mean nothing - 12 years ago

these polls allow you to vite multiple time...there rigged...Paul Dewar and topp are probably in a computer lab with multiple accounts voting for them selves.

So Paul Dewar is the guy sitting there at your office or in his own home using a proxy posting bot under salary, or just a good friend of yours? ... You know.. The guy cheating the system to stack the votes in such a way that one can almost watch and time it, coming from the bottom to the lead, as we've been watching for some time now. Shady Shady.
We've done some checking and your FB doesn't even have too many supporters. Interesting to see you attempt to stack / sway the deck, and thinking people who're more technically ingenious than yourself wouldn't notice what's going on here. All you've done by doing this is make yourself look foolish to today's generation. :)

I'm a huge fan of Nathan. He doesn't just care about New Democrats, he cares about people. His co-operation plan shows this. He is genuine and passionate, intelligent and charismatic. I honestly have a hard time picturing Harper looking good next to Nathan Cullen.

  • Somethings fishy - 12 years ago

    Something's fishy with this poll...
Paul Dewar suddenly jumped into second place from no where, and I checked his facebook page, and he has less fans than the other two in the top three, and he's not promoting this link online nor is anyone else in favor of paul dewar... I'm thinking this is either staged, or someone has a proxy powered click bot going because this suddenly became inaccurate .... and it's still going, yet he has fewer online supporters than the other two.. 2+2 does not equal 5

I am going with Nathan Cullen. I've met with him in person on issues that had no relation to politics, and he's as genuine as they come. He's one of the few that cares deeply for the people, and in knowing that he's the best person running in this political line up. Not to say others don't have flair, and spark but Nathan is the guy who will get things done Jack Style.

i'll be voting Nathan Cullen because he's the only one with a plan that can actually defeat Harper (joint nomination in seats that were being lost because of the vote split) . Cullen is also a very good at debates and has made many of the other candidate look foolish (including Mulcair), but at the same time he doesn't embarrass you when he debates like Mulcair who often loses his cool.

Julie, I realize political experience can mean a lot of things, but Cullen is the longest serving MP running for leader. He's been elected 4 times.

I agree with Jodi, although I have not met Mr. Topp personally I have watched most of the televised debates and I find him to be the most genuine of all the candidates. Being from Montreal myself, and now living in Vancouver I appreciate the fact that Mr. Topp is fluently bilingual and in touch with the needs of Quebecer's while also having a wide range of experience in other Canadian Provinces. He has the experience and past personal connections to Mr. Layton, he's charming and he has had the years of experience in the back rooms. It's time for him to step out into the spotlight and lead this party where they need to go.

As for the rest of the candidates, I am impressed with Mr. Cullen however I don't think he has what it takes (mainly the political experience) to be prime minister. However he is someone to watch.

Mulcair is far too reactive, arrogant and defensive to lead a party that is about bringing Canadians together, he seems to intent of the role of leader for personal gains and does not appear to have much cohesion with the other candidates. His defensiveness will not get the NDP where they need to go.

I am supporting Brian Topp. He has the right blend of honesty, charisma, electability, and principles. He has been behind 4 winning campaigns (Jack's for two and Saskatchewan's before that). Before I met him I feared that meant he was just a back-room boy, but I've met him and seen him debate and he is more than that. He has the charm and substance to win (I remember that I wasn't convinced that Jack had it when I first met him).

He is concise and to the point, in a way that a campaign manager would love. He'll be easy to canvass with, and canvass for. I don't feel like he is about to do something that would embarrass me. I can't say the same for any other candidate. I think Mulcair has the immediate appeal, but after seeing him in the debate, I think he is a loose cannon who cannot watch his mouth. Yes, we need someone to beat Harper, but we don't want to piss off our voters in the same breath.
