I'm 28 years old, I live in San Antonio tx I was at my mom on Easter Sunday will she has a husky male dog. She had him tied all day because we had family over , after everyone left my 2 lil boys and niece and older brother were outside.. Me and my baby my youngest were going to walk inside my moms house passing the dog I called him come here con all I remember was him attacking me in my face he cut my lip open I remember getting away and grabbing my baby inside holding my lip because it was hanging seeing blood everywhere it was a nightmare I must say I'm glad he got me and not my 3 year old son... But this dog was aggressive and he knows me the dog left for 10 days but my family wants to bring the dog back makes me angry because I got stitches on my face not to mention what if he attacks again so lost for words I say you can replace a dog but not a human

I feel for this family but THEY made the mistake of allowing the dog access to the baby unattended and having that poor animal put down for it was WRONG!! So many folks offered to take the animal and care for her so the family didn't have to be reminded of what had happened but they decided to end her life instead. Why? It seems like senseless killing after a tragedy.

Please take the remaining dogs away from this family before they put them in harms way as well.

parents are 100% responsible and should be charged! who is there for the child's safety? if not the parents, then its up to law Enforcement.

I'm sorry- but seriously- I don't care how much training or socilaization this animal had- NO RESPONSIBLE TRAINER would ever say that its okay to leave ANY dog alone with a child- especially a newborn! To the people on here saying they know this family and we are kicking them when they are down- get real- they were simply stupid and they should have all their dogs confiscated and no longer be given a licence not only to have a dog as a pet but to not use them as income either. I repeat- ANY RESPONSIBLE BREEDER OR TRAINER WILL TELL YOU TO NEVER LEAVE A DOG ALONE WITH KIDS! Husky's are sometimes considered good family dogs- but when one does some research on the dog its clear that they are of an independent nature and need to have an owner that is a leader or they will not see the point in obeying and will do their own thing- high energy dogs that need a tonne of activity - if they do not get it- they become aggressive and destructive. Any person who owns dogs responsibly and owns a business either breeding them or running a sledding company would not use them as a baby sitter. There is information out there everywhere that states that no amount of training- no matter how loving and sweet you think your dog is- you should not leave them alone with small children- NOT EVEN FOR A SECOND. Charges should be laid- there is no way they are responsible dog owners- the fact they are releasing statements defending themselves stating how well they've trained the dog is proof of that.

I'd be willing to bet the owners of this dog have said to others in the past, "Don't worry, he won't bite. He's never bit anybody; he wouldn't hurt a fly."

    Famous last words of a love-blind dog-lover.

I agree with Friend. I too know this family; they are in unimaginable pain. Their dogs are part of the family, they are responsible, caring and conscientious owners and loving parents. Kicking a family while they're down is no way to display your humanity.

Please shut down the comments here. This is a friends baby who has died. Everyone here is ignorant to the situation including me. Far more cases of violence happen from people toward babies every day than will ever happen with dogs.
What I do know is that this dog is a member of the family, and that the owners of this dog did as much training (always positive) and socialization as ANY person out there.
This was a tragic unimaginable accident. Any blame lays only with whom ever you think God is. People should not be able to vomit uninformed words on this board. Please have some respect for this young family and disable the comments.

I feel very badly for the parents & especially for their son. I do feel the parents are responsible though. They introduced this animal to their home, and it had access to a newborn- something that should never happen. I cant understand, really, how this happened. Someone wasnt watching, and I find a newborns tragic death, 12 hours later- meaning he suffered, unacceptable. What bothers me more, is there was a similar case in Quebec, and the mother was charged, when her dog killed HER baby, so why is the law, in the same country, allowing a different legal scenario. Either parents are guilty of neglect at the least- or they arent.

another bad thing that happen again with dogs , like i said before you can never trust dogs cause they have no feel for anything , they sure can protect you but you can never read their minds in what they can do ,. their has to be some kind of law about dogs , for i know their working dogs an never made to be a family pet ,, no one should really get to close to them , i will never let my kids have dogs or any kind of animal in their house and by the way they already know what and animal can do, cause i been telling them ,, ,you can never trust an animal,,, never.

I have to say i agree with Jesse, that family has paid the ultimate price. They will never be able to forget what has happened. I do feel for the family, however, I do not think dogs have any business being near young children, never mind a newborn. I hope this family can find some sort of peace. God bless that innocent little boy.

  • Jesse Todd - 12 years ago

Seriously? Do you really believe that dogs have no place in a town or city? Get a grip. To quote your words, that they are "dirty, smelly, aggressive creatures." The same could be said about people.

I do agree with you that it is not appropriate when a dog jumps on a person and the owner does not correct that behavior. I also believe that people should be held accountable for their dog. They decided to get the pet, so it is now their responsibility.

In this case, the people that lost their baby have paid the ultimate price. Why would you want to charge them with murder?

  • Sheilagh Wong - 12 years ago

What do you mean there is no one to blame! This, at the very least, is criminal negligence causing death, perhaps much worse.

I have had enough of dogs. They are dirty, smelly, aggressive creatures that have no business inside a town or city limits. I have had dogs jump on me and my children while using public facilities and all one gets from the owner is smile with "isn't that cute." No it is not. It is an assault. I would like to see a law in place where they is no distinction between the dog and the registered owner. If a dog bites the owner is charged with assault as if he or she committed the assault. If a dog kills, its owner is a murderer.

  • loosethoughts - 12 years ago

Seriously, why would you leave a dog with a newborn? Had the dog watched you spend enough time with the child to know the child is its master?

I would like a more in depth review on this one. I know both the animal and the parents are to blame, and I am happy they are taking this case by case instead of an outright ban on the breed of animal, as we have been known to do in the past.

Whenever a pet attacks a human it is the fault of the owners mainly. Improper training, socializing and encouragement are all contributing factors. The responsibility to bond with your pet is great but often overlooked. Just because the parents trained their animal doesn't mean they can overlook the bonding necessary for a great relationship.

Okay, So a new born baby looses its life and sarah says no is to blame....really not the parents or the dog? Its funny how people say dogs are smart and they know alot, they never care that the dog is jealous or thinks of children has toys! First of the parents need to be charged with the murder of their son! You as a dog owner choose to bring animals first into your home then have children...4 dogs and a new born..where is your brain? Dogs are animals and they behave like animals...think and put your children first...not your dog! This happens alot, everyone wants a shiit-hound and do not want to be responsible for what the dog does, to your kid or someone elses! Dog owners need to be accountable for what there animals do! OR DO NOT BRING DOGS INTO YOUR HOME!

  • Sarah Roth - 12 years ago

Tragic. But no one is to blame especially not the dog.

  • Brenda Miller - 12 years ago

This is a very sad incident. Likely preventable too. I am sad for this family and this dog.
