My sister was hit by a car in june of last year. She was not jaywalking, she waited at a pedestrian crossing and stepped off the curb after she got the green light. She was hit by a car and I thank god she survived and that she was not alone. Many people witnesssed the accident and could confirm that the driver was at fault. Oncoming traffic prohibited the driver from leaving the scene.
My sister suffered two broken legs, a fracture in her knee, multiple laserations from being launched over the hood ,against the windshield and landing behind the car on the street.
Jaywalking is asking for an accident but pedestrian crossings aren't an insuance for a safe crossing. In my country a driver that hits a pedestrian or biker is always at fault it invokes defensive driving.
