The town of North Plains should not have to deal with the stench that is produced from garbage that is trucked in from outside of the county. Yes recycling is a good thing, but you should not lower your neighbors livability by making them smell your stink. Nobody would want to smell this while having a backyard picnic. I know many people(myself included) that do not want to spend time in North Plains because the smell is overwhelming at times.

It is hard to believe that people could make comments that don't live in the city or around North Plains. The stench is horrible. Can you not smell it?

Cut a deal with a baking soda company for all their baking soda not being sold immediately. Layer it every day, then on the days with no moisture, gently spray water on it. Baking soda works on everything and appears to do little/no harm to the environment (based on the fact millions of households use it for their cleaning needs, including brushing their teeth).

I say this as no one seems to be addressing one issue: if you smell rotting food, doesn't it mean mold spores are in evidence? What will this mean for allergy suffers/asthmatics: a possible health issue? Has anyone looked into this?

Wow!!! I cant believe that we are even having this poll. Recology is trying to do the right thing and we are talking about the SMELL? Your property values are down because of the choices that are being made in Washington DC. If you really think about what is happening, (in what has been a sleepy little town), this could be the best thing that ever happened to the place. You are on the cutting edge of something that could change the world! Embrace it and if you really need something to complain about, start complaining about why this hasn't happened earlier.

What we should really be doing is thanking Recology for having the guts to embark on this journey most likely knowing the heat they were about to take. Stop feeling sorry for yourselves and try to see the positive side of this.

As a society we all want what is best for us. I am as far from a tree hugger as anyone could be but this concept and idea is so ahead of our time. I have three beautiful children and I am so very proud of Recology for coming up with thia idea. What they are doing is making our childrens future a little brighter. Give them a little more time to try to control the smell.

Let me tell you something, that ain't no rose. Roll up your windows and hold your nose. You don't have to look and you don't have to see 'cause you can feel it in your olfactory.
(from "dead skunk") Been going on for a long time. Should have had it under control by now.

Anyone who thinks the good out weighs the bad owns no property in or near North Plains.
As things are right now, if I were looking to buy a house, I would fire any realtor that
Brought me to North Plains to look at a house. No one wants to live next to a garbage dump.
If the odor isn't bad, why isn't this done in Portland or Multnoma county where the garbage is
Generated ? That would be much more environmentally friendly.
What is going on is this: One group of crooks (county commissioners) got together with another
Group of crooks (out of state corporation) to make a buck and the will of the people that live
    Here be damned.

People....you need to understand, Recology is not located within the city limits of North Plains, the cities hands are tied. If the smell is hurting businesses then why weren't they at the open house? Only a few business owners attended!! hopefully they can get the odor under control and become better neighbors, but lets give them a chance.

I am for moving the facility to a VERY remote location. There are a lot of times that we can smell the stench as we approach Jackson School overpass coming from the east. Not to mention the smell when you first come out in the morning. Very gross!! Frankly, we're sick of it.

To open the door of your home to leave for the day and get blasted by the awful stench at your own door....it's too much. You hit the wave of stink every night when you drive home and wake up to it many mornings, it's unbearable. Where can I find the petition to sign?

I'm sure Jennifer & Krista don't live in NP.

  • Jennifer - 12 years ago

    Jennifer and Krista,
If this would lover your standard of livability how would you feel about that?

If this would be in front of your door and lower your house value, would you want it in your area?
If you would be a business owner and it ruins your business, how patient would you be then?

No one says it is a bad thing it is just too close to the city of North Plains, the facility has to move to a remote location.

The smell of nature's need's HAS RUINED my sweet little town
This perfect little town used to smell great, the smells of roasting coffee
And fresh cut wood were some of the highlights of this sweet little town.
Now since our corrupt police and city officials have let the smell nature's need's
And a ticket happy police dept. run off almost all visitors and patrons of this little town.
I guess we will see our little town fall into farther decline as company's fail, events fail,
and people fail to come and spend dollars that support this community. I love north plains and
have lived here all my life and wish this town better then what nature's need's and our police
    give it,,,, a bad reputation
    North plains I love you,
    Jake

This is a great thing! And like anything that is worth having/doing, it takes time to get to the end result. That however, is something that we as a society, have forgotten.

    The good outweighs the bad.
