NFC is the only option here since so few phones and manufactures support it. If something is truly going to be a change this is it, although I don't think consumers are ready for it.
Multi-core chips are already in phones thus this isn't a change. LTE Adoption is more about the carrier network not the phone; manufactures can and have been making LTE phones for carriers that support it. Bigger and brighter screens as well as downward pressure on prices are just a fact of life in the technology world thus again this is not a change.
