Should Men Dye Their Hair or Go Gray?

I think that a man with gray hair that takes care of himself looks quite distinguished and sexy. Take rocker Jon Bon Jovi. He has decided to go gray and looks great! I think that men who try to cover their grays usually just make themselves look older.

I'm 44 and have had salt and pepper hair for several years. I had my hair professionally colored in January '12. My initial thought after I saw my hair colored for the first time was "what have I done". I almost had a stroke. It was darker than I had expected............I hadn't seen that color since I was 29 years old. After a few days I began to like the color as it lightened up a bit. The second time I dyed my hair was Feb '12. I went a tad lighter in color. I might add that the salon used a method called "camo" color where the dye doesn't cover everything, but only the gray........the dye blends in with your natural hair color. March '12, just a few days ago, I purchased a box of Just for Men. Dying my hair myself was much easier than I thought, and I saved some money.........although I'm still not convinced I like the color as I think it's too dark. I may keep this up for a while, but I've always wanted to dye my hair just once to see what it would look it.

Men, if you are debating on whether or not to dye your hair, don't worry about it too much, Take the chance. You'll either like it or you won't. If you don't like it, it'll grow back. May as well try it just once.

Definitely dye your hair if your going to a job interview. Gray is perceived as old when looking for a job. When you're older and the person interviewing you sees gray they say in their mind this guy is old so he will be retiring soon. I want fresh young blood that will be with us for awhile. Also they think they will have to pay more for the old guy than the younger guy.

Have to agree with Gail. Not all men look like George Clooney so they should dye it!! And a man with grey hair who adds a grey or a salt and pepper beard just looks pathetic and even older than he is. And why do balding me with a little gray/white hair think it's time to grow a gray/white beard? They look like Santa Claus.

Unless you look like George Clooney, dye it! Otherwise, don't complain when you're not getting as much! (and George would look better if he dyed it as well.) Who wants to sleep with their grandfather? !

If you are still working and competing with 30 and 40 something guys dye it. Not jet black but just a little. Trust me it is important unless you have the anderson cooper silver. Most of us just have dull grey that washes our your skin.

Dye it if you are all gray. Gray hair makes you look old. The total gray hair gives your skin a sickly color. Best to add a little color. Just stay away from the Wayne Newton shoe polish look.

I started going grey in my early fourties and tried the "dye" look. I gotta warn you, pool chlorine and dye don't mix (unless you like greenish orange). 52 now and totally grey with a salt and pepper trimmed beard. Women my age love it, though I doubt I'd get any dates with any in their 20s or 30's.

The only men running around dyeing their hair is a bunch of vain old farts.

I don't know about men, but I think it's kind of hot to see younger girls(25-35) with some grey hair.

I like it on women, but I can't really speak to what women like in men. For me it makes them seem more mature, which women on the whole are sorely in need of. No, a healthy woman with silver or grey hair works just fine for me.

I think it's more about how they feel about themselves. In the end, it's in the eyes no matter what their hair looks like.

Use Just for Men and your natural hair color. Women have been doing it for years. Gray/white hair makes you look old..just adding to the wrinkles, age spots, hazy eyes, and all the rest of the aging process. Throw in extra weight and it aint pretty/handsome.

I prefer a man's natural color to any dye job; I can spot one a block away. Same thing goes for toupees - don't! Very recently I quit coloring my hair, and much to my surprise it's salt and a darker pepper than I knew. My husband likes it, says women pay lots of money to get the effect.

How about a survey for short, round, gray, and balding guys?

My wife, family, and friends went nuts, but at 68 I went platinum!
They'll get over it, because it's staying platinum!

Are you trying to find a job? Then dye it - period. When I don't dye my hair it adds 20 years to my looks. I do dye it (although I have a relatively secure job) and it scares me to look in the mirror when I don't. My father dyed his hair for many years, when he finally stopped he aged seemingly overnight.

I have earned every single one of my gray hairs and I wear them as a badge of courage. Men should never dye their hair. As for women, I prefer the natural color of a woman hair as well. I can't stand to see a women in her 50's with coal black hair, it is rather sad.

My kids worked long and hard to give me my gray hair. I wouldn't insult their efforts by dyeing it.

it all depends how well you look with either dyed or naturally gray/platinum color. Whichever brings out the best on general appearance. If natural gray makes your hair look dull or flat, then I'd opt for dyeing. If naturally gray seems more striking than dyed hair, then it's fine. For guys who wants to dye, choose any color that has the word "ash" in it. And, my mother always advise that the color dye should be lighter as you get older. And let me add, it should match the color of your eyebrows.

I neither embrace nor push my gray out of the way. I don't flaunt it, I don't cover it. It just is what it is. My wife says it makes me look "dignified". I think I AM dignified with or without it.

You can't improve on nature. Whatever it has in store, I'm ready. Don't dye your hair. That's unnatural and it looks it!
