Hines Ward was the best team player ever!!! Hands down!! #86 forever a Steeler! His style was so unselfish, he played the game with HEART!! Steeler football has always been like that. They are a TEAM. They count on each other and when one is down, the other picks up the slack. He was accepting his role as mentor, older teacher. You would never catch him being snobby or upset about his playing time. I was very upset the Rooneys did not find a way to keep him, but Hines' decision to retire made me happy. Hines Ward deserves to be in the Football Hall of Fame. OMG, does he ever!!!!

Ward and TO will be reaching HOF eligibility at about the same time. What an interesting debate that will be. The epitome of the self-absorbed diva receiver and the epitome of the unselfish do anything to help the team player. Hines gets my vote.

Yes he does belong in the HOF. You want to talk "dirty" let's talk about the Saints and New England.

  • Cheap shot Artist - 12 years ago

He was a dirty player. He did not play with any ethics. He may not have been getting bounty money, but he was looking to hurt and take people out. His Cheap shots make him less hall worthy. I respect his stats as a WR, but not as a person. He will get in, but he did not show himself to be a good person on the field. He is a top 10 dirty player.

Because being a HOF'er isn't or shouldn't be all about statistics. Are there better WR's than Hines Ward? Yes. Are there better BLOCKING WR's than Hines Ward. Definately NOT. He's one of a kind. A team player who played with passion and joy unlike most if not all WR's that play the game. When the NFL has to make a rule because of how you play the game (Hines Ward Rule) then your a game changer. To not recognize that he helped get his team into SB's by EQUAL parts of WR and blocking is ridiculous. He should be judged on BOTH criteria's.

Having been a die-hard browns fan all my life, Ward has caused me quite a bit of agony. But he is a FOOTBALL PLAYER and I thought the HOF was for the best football players, not the best highlight reels.

Hines Ward will be inducted into the HOF for sure...maybe not first-ballot, but he'll get in.

  • Ray Lewis - 12 years ago

No Way. He was a mediocre player.

HOF for sure! It isn't just the numbers, although Hines' are outstanding. Do they track "key blocks"? Do they track of momentum changing plays, such as "key first downs"? What stat do they use for leadership and mentoring? Hines blows away the other guys who have the numbers but aren't yet in the HOF. He made plays when plays needed to be made. When they create a rule with your name on it - The Hines Ward Rule - then you are doing something outstanding. Seems to me another Hall of Fame Steeler did that. Look up the Mel Blount Rule. Thanks Hines!

The NFL Hall of Fame is a joke, particularly when it comes to receivers. Ward is deserving enough of the honor, but so is Cris Carter and a host of others. Art Monk had to wait most of a decade to get inducted. Ward played for one of the league's elite franchises, which works in his favor, but he didn't have the highlight reel catches that the voters (who put Lynn Swann in ahead of John Stalworth and Michael Irvin in ahead of Monk) put so much stock in. He will get in, but he should wait his turn.

Until Drew Pearson is put into the hall of fame, I don't any other "marginal" players should get the honor.

Ward is a more complete FOOTBALL player... supports the run by blocking better. Can't say that about Rice, Carter, Moss... any of the modern era ballerinas. oops wide receivers

    definitely HOF
