Do we need Gubuntu?

Definitely YES! And it should be a pure Gnome 3 distro, with all the default stuff. That means no preinstalled extensions, default theme (including icons, wallpaper, etc), default GDM, default Gnome 3 apps (web browser, IM, email, etc.). There's no such distro yet, but the Gnome guys are doing such an awesome job that I really can't understand why distros always need to modify something.

One has to see how well Mint works with Gnome Shell. But the good news for Ken is, since they have Cinnamon now, there is no need to 'patch' Gnome Shell anymore, so a simple "sudo apt-get install gnome-shell" should give you the pure experience.

It's just that we don't need it, in my opinion Ubuntu users could just input one command line, log out and log back into Gnome-Shell for all they care. Just because there are other derivatives like Lubuntu and Kubuntu, (for now), there should be more emphasis on other things rather than trying to fork everything in sight, (not sure if that sounds right). Canonical sees that. I hope Ubuntu users will know what to do if they want a different desktop environment, no one needs to prepackage every possible combination of Ubuntu for them.

We need it just as much as we need KDE or LXDE. It is a major desktop option.

In fact, Shuttleworth himself must have thought Gnome was more important than KDE up until Unity. Why else would it be the default for so many years. That should place Gnome in second place and KDE in third place, as a result. Personally, I switched to Mint a few years ago and Have to undo what Mint did to Gnome 3 every time I do an install. I may just switch to the next pure Gnome distro that comes close to Ubuntu or Mint.
